Hilltoppers beat Tigers 10-2

The Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers defeated the Illini Bluffs
Tigers 10-2 on Thursday afternoon in Glasford.
The Hilltoppers were off to a great start in this one.
Chase Roberts started the game with a double to center on the first
pitch. Mount Pulaski would go on to score four runs in the top of
the first inning on two hits. Keoni Charron had an RBI single for
Mount Pulaski’s other hit. The inning was dotted with two errors,
two walks and a hit batter that helped Mount Pulaski get four runs
across.
The Tigers came back to plate one run in the bottom of the first
inning.
Mount Pulaski plated two more runs in the top of the second inning.
Preston Cowan led off the inning with a single and Luke Martin drove
him home on a double to center. Carter Clark would drive in Martin
with a single to right.
With the Tigers scoring a run in the second inning, Mount Pulaski’s
lead was cut to 6-2.
In the top of the fifth inning Caden Wyler walked, Keoni Charron
laid down a sacrifice bunt and Tyler Fitzpatrick hit a single to
left to give Roberts an RBI opportunity. Roberts delivered with a
two-run single to right to increase the lead to 8-2. Jaeden Jackson
would add another run on an RBI single to right in the inning.
Jackson connected for another RBI single in the top of the seventh
inning and the final score of 10-2 was reached.

Preston Cowan pitched the seventh inning in relief
and after a shaky start to the inning, he retired the final three
batters on strikeouts. He allowed a lead-off single and hit a batter
to give the Tigers a glimpse of hope.
Carter Clark earned the win for Mount Pulaski. He pitched another
great ballgame for the Hilltoppers. Clark threw six innings,
allowing five hits and two runs. Only one run was earned. He walked
four and struck out six.
Weston David took the loss for Illini Bluffs.
Mount Pulaski had eleven hits versus the Tigers.
Tucker Fitzpatrick was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
Luke Martin was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Chase Roberts was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Jaeden Jackson was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs.
Preston Cowan, Carter Clark and Keoni Charron each had one hit.
Mount Pulaski (10-5) will host Springfield Southeast Friday at 4:30
p.m.
