Mount Pulaski Lady Toppers crush Riverton 63-18

[January 07, 2026]  Fresh off winning the 2025 Riverton Lady Hawks Christmas Classic last week, the Mount Pulaski Lady Toppers returned to their home court on Tuesday night to take on the tournament hosts in a Varsity only contest.

Playing in the first regular season game of 2026, Mount Pulaski crushed the Lady Hawks 63-18, improving their season record to 15-0.

Addison Brown led Mount Pulaski with 18 points. She also had 6 rebounds.

Alyson Murphy had 12 points and 7 steals.

Ella Martin tossed in 10 points and recorded 7 rebounds.

Claire Bobell came off the bench and played well, scoring two 3s and pulling down six rebounds.

First quarter
The first quarter wrap-up is pretty simple: Mount Pulaski literally ran the Lady Hawks ragged and left no doubt who was going to win this contest with a 27-0 lead before the visitors even scored. Riverton finally got on the board with about twelve seconds left as freshman Danae Anderson scored a three.

In a more detailed description, Mount Pulaski scored the first seven points in less than thirty seconds. Alyson Murphy tossed in the first two buckets within thirteen seconds of the clock starting and then it was Addison Brown hitting her first three-pointer of the game at the 7:31 mark. Mount Pulaski was putting on a show for a great Tuesday night crowd, not just scoring but forcing turnovers and stealing the ball left and right. The Lady Toppers incredible defense allowed Murphy to score another quick bucket after a steal. Olivia Smith also got in the scoring column early with a putback. Elayna Marten also poured in two baskets during the run. Brown eventually found herself in the lane, scoring on an open layup, a drive through the lane and finally pulling down an offensive rebound and tossing it back up for two. Freshman Ella Martin also scored two baskets in the lane and hit two free throws. All in all Mount Pulaski’s ball movement was terrific and the ladies were all about sharing the scoring. The end result was a success. Mount Pulaski 27 and Riverton 3.

Second quarter
Anderson scored the first basket in the second quarter for the Hawks and then Mount Pulaski took over with a 9-0 run. At one point the Hawks couldn’t even get the ball across half court before Murphy just swiped the ball and ran away with it, scoring yet again. A shining moment for the Hawks was when they hit a three but even Mount Pulaski had another answer for that. This time it was Claire Bobell off the bench draining her first three of the game to give Mount Pulaski a 41-8 lead. Just before the half ended Riverton scored on a three again and the halftime score was 41-11.

Third quarter
Brown started the third quarter off with not one, but two 3s. She showed a little hesitation with the second one and then boom! Nothing but net. Cooper also scored back-to-back buckets. Mount Pulaski’s lead was 51-11 before the Hawks even scored a point. When the Hawks did score, it was just one point on a free throw. Bobell was back at it from long range, swishing a three at the 2:22 mark. With under a minute left, Brown sank her third three-pointer of the quarter and Murphy finished the scoring on a two that gave Mount Pulaski a 59-12 lead.

Fourth quarter
The game was already moving along at a rapid speed but it got a little faster in the fourth quarter once the clock was running. The highlight of the fourth quarter was Mount Pulaski’s Cami Killion entering the scoring column with a beautiful bank shot and an even more beautiful smile to go along with it. Ella Martin also sank two free throws in the quarter, which would prove to be more than enough scoring for a win. The Hawks poured in six points and had to settle for a 63-18 deciding score.

Mount Pulaski remains perfect on the season but will face a tough opponent on Thursday night when the Athens Warriors come to town.

This game will also be the Hoops for Hope game that is honoring Matt Olson and his family. Olson is 34 years old and he had emergency open heart surgery in 2025. Olson is a devoted husband and father. All funds raised through the live auction, silent auction, bake sale, 50/50 raffle and donations will be given to the family as they navigate this difficult time.

The JV game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the Varsity game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
