Railers roll to sixth straight win, knocking off Mahomet-Seymour 64 - 38

[January 14, 2026]
LINCOLN – The Railer basketball team arguably turned in its best overall performance of the season as Lincoln earned a running-clock victory in defeating former Apollo Conference foe Mahomet-Seymour by a final score of 64-38.

Lincoln has occasionally had problems scoring. But there were no such worries in this game, as the Railers scorched the nets, shooting 64.7 percent from the field overall (22 of 34), including nine of 18 (50 percent) on three-point attempts.

Lincoln has been victimized at times by losing the battle of the boards. No problems in this game, as the Railers outrebounded their opponents 22-18.

LCHS has been plagued in some games with inconsistent offense, sometimes going entire quarters only scoring a handful of points. The Railers made sure that wasn’t an issue in this contest, outscoring Mahomet-Seymour in every quarter, including by a 23-5 margin in the pivotal third period when Lincoln put the game away.

Head Coach Neil Alexander

“I thought we played hard,” LCHS coach Neil Alexander said. “I thought we ran good offense. We got shots we wanted. We’ve still got a lot of work to do defensively.”

Mahomet-Seymour got on the board first with a three-pointer, but Bryce Vlahovich made a strong drive to the hoop and hit the layup, making the score 3-2. A couple possessions after a field goal by the Bulldogs, Tate Aue hit a long three-pointer for Lincoln to tie the score 5-all.

Later in the period with the score 8-8, Karson Komnick took over for the Railers. The 6-foot-3 senior guard single-handedly outscored the Bulldogs 10-3 over a four-minute stretch, increasing the Lincoln lead to 18-11.

Brody Tungate

Mahomet-Seymour got a three-point play from Parker Henry before Komnick and Brody Tungate closed out the first period scoring with a pair of baskets to give the Railers a 22-17 lead heading into the second quarter.

LCHS outscored the Bulldogs by a 10-8 margin in the second quarter to hold a 32-25 halftime lead. The Railers put the game out of reach in the first four minutes after intermission, opening the period with a 16-0 run to stretch their lead to 48-25.

The Railers went on to outscore Mahomet-Seymour 23-5 in the third quarter to hold a 55-30 advantage heading into the final period. Near the midway point of the quarter, Kane Komnick hit a pair of free throws for Lincoln, pushing the Railer lead to 30 points at 63-33 and enacting a running clock for the remainder of the game.

Lincoln outscored the Bulldogs 9-8 in the final period for a 64-38 victory.

After the game, Alexander said he was pleased with his team’s overall performance.

“Our kids just stuck with it,” he said. “We didn’t have a bad quarter; that’s what we were shooting for, we were trying to win all four quarters.”

While the team seemed to be prone to occasional slumps in previous games, Alexander said the overall approach of the team against Mahomet-Seymour carried the team throughout the game.

“I think the kids were focused,” Alexander said. “They came to play and they played hard. I just think the overall play was pretty good. We were solid in everything. We think that we give up too much dribble-drive, but we only gave up 38 points to a team that was averaging 58 points a game.”

Karson Komnick

Karson Komnick led the Railers with 25 points. Tungate added 20, Aue tallied nine and Vlahovich scored seven for Lincoln, which has won 12 of its last 13 contests.

The victory improves Lincoln’s overall record to 16-3. The Railers have won 12 of their last 13 games. Mahomet-Seymour falls to 9-6 with the loss.

The win also gives Alexander 994 career coaching victories, moving him six victories away from 1,000 career wins.
