Midwest Central keeps the Tomahawk trophy with 62-60 win over Mount Pulaski

[January 17, 2026]  The Midwest Central Raiders beat Mount Pulaski 62-60 on Friday night in Manito.

Possession of the Tomahawk Conference trophy remains in the hands of the Raiders, although the Hilltoppers did their best to bring it home.

The Hilltoppers drained four 3s in the first quarter and were left trailing the Raiders just 17-16.

Aaron Volle poured in 10 points in the second quarter and Reed Martin and Franklin Wade each scored six points as Mount Pulaski took over the lead 38-31 at the half.

Midwest Central started their scoring in the third quarter with two 3s. With 5:40 on the clock, the Raiders took a 41-40 lead after two free throws. Wade put Mount Pulaski back on top with a putback and then he extended the lead to 44-41 on the fast break. Volle’s three-pointer gave Mount Pulaski a 47-44 lead. Wade scored four more points in the quarter and Austin Kretzinger added a bucket to keep Mount Pulaski in front 53-49.

Midwest Central closed the gap with a three in the fourth quarter but with Martin’s score off the offensive rebound, the Hilltoppers held steady with a 55-52 lead and 5:43 remaining. The Raiders took a one-point lead on a layup with 3:35 left in the game. Kretzinger’s basket flipped the lead back to Mount Pulaski but just under the 3:00 mark it was the Raiders with a three to take the lead. Wade would hit a three at the 2:25 mark to give the Hilltoppers the 60-59 lead and thirty seconds later the Raiders used a three to take the lead yet again. This time the 62-60 score would hold out until the final buzzer. Mount Pulaski did have a handful of chances to win at the end, but the shots just wouldn’t fall.

Franklin Wade led Mount Pulaski with 22 points.

Aaron Volle tossed in 21 points for the Hilltoppers.

Mount Pulaski lost the JV game 66-40.

Reed Martin led the JV team with 31 points.

Mount Pulaski will play Greenview today at 5:00 p.m. at home for a Varsity game only.
