Friday evening fun at the Emden
Homecoming
[July 21, 2026]
The heat did not keep people
from venturing out to the 79th annual Emden homecoming, which had
activities for the whole family.
In the grassy area, children’s
activities included bouncy houses, slides and rock climbing wall. On
the other side of the street, there was face painting and a fishing
pond.
Additional activities were a dime
toss game, a ring toss game and the always popular Bingo with cash
prizes.
At one end of the street the Sons
of the American Legion ran a food stand selling corn dogs, fries and
drinks.
Other Sons of the American Legion members were selling tickets for a
50/50 drawing and a gun raffle.
With the hot weather, the Davis
Delights food truck was a popular spot with cool treats like ice
cream, shakes, sundaes and banana splits. Young Claire Klokkenga
said she loved the pink ice cream.

The Emden Historical Society
building was a good place to escape the heat and view displays from
Emden’s past.
Musical entertainment was provided
by the Matt Miller band with their blend of Southern rock, country
music and honky-tonk.
Throughout the evening, people seemed to be enjoying small town life
as they caught up with longtime friends.
Former Emden resident Mike McDonough said, “it is good to see the
community get together for homecoming.” He loves the safe atmosphere
for the kids. It is what small town life is about.
It was a great evening for families to be out enjoying food, fun and
visiting with friends.
The fun continued Saturday with a wiffleball tournament, homecoming
parade, kiddie tractor pull and evening activities that included
musical entertainment by the band Stereotypical.
