Lexington takes down Mount Pulaski
14-7
[May 11, 2026]
It was finally a beautiful day for a ballgame on Saturday as
the Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers hosted the Lexington Minutemen. The
only ugly part of the day was after a 4-0 lead by the Hilltoppers
disappeared, they ended up falling 14-7 to the Minutemen.
Besides the sunshine on Saturday, the brightest spot for the
Hilltoppers was the 3-for-4 performance by junior Aaron Volle in the
DH spot. Volle also drove in two runs and scored a run. Volle is
slowing easing back into the lineup after experiencing a broken
fifth metatarsal a month ago.
Tyler Cross was also 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI.
Luke Martin was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Preston Cowan and Tucker Fitzpatrick each had one hit to complete
Mount Pulaski’s ten hits in the game.
The real obstacle for the Hilltoppers was the Lexington offense
slugging 19 hits and scoring 12 runs in the final three innings.
Mount Pulaski got on the scoreboard in the second inning with a run
scored by Aaron Volle. Volle led off the inning with a single and
moved to second on a grounder by Tyler Cross. Volle was able to take
third on a passed ball and score on an error by the catcher.
In the third inning, Tucker Fitzpatrick singled and Chase Roberts
walked. They were each able to score when Luke Martin doubled to
center. After Volle singled to right field, Martin scored to give
Mount Pulaski the 4-0 lead.
Mount Pulaski starter Jaeden Jackson, who had cruised through the
first three innings, gave up a triple, double and a single in the
fourth inning. That led to the Minutemen scoring two runs to trim
the lead to 4-2.

Things only escalated in the fifth inning when the
Minutemen hit six singles and used a walk to score five more runs
and take the lead, 7-4.
One more run was added by Lexington in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Mount Pulaski was
able to score one run thanks to a lead-off double by Volle, a single
by Cross and an error by Lexington.
The top of the seventh inning buried the Hilltoppers. Lexington
pounded out seven singles and earned two walks while scoring six
more runs.
The Hilltoppers rally in the bottom of the seventh inning fell
short. Mount Pulaski did score twice in the final inning. Cowan
started things off with a single and Martin followed with a double.
Two outs later Cowan scored on a groundout. Cross tripled to bring
in the Hilltoppers final run of the game as they fell short 14-7 in
the slugfest.
Each team committed two errors.
Jaeden Jackson took the loss for Mount Pulaski. He threw four and
one-third innings, allowing ten hits and seven runs. He walked two
and struck out two.
Chase Roberts worked two and two-thirds innings, giving up nine hits
and seven runs. He walked two and struck out three.
Jack Miller was the winning pitcher for Lexington.
Mount Pulaski (15-8) will host the Tri-City Tornadoes today at 4:30
p.m.
