[May 12, 2026]  It was another gorgeous day for baseball on Monday afternoon when the Mount Pulaski Hilltoppers hosted the Tri-City Tornadoes. The Hilltoppers jumped all over Tri-City’s pitching staff enroute to a 12-2 win.

Senior Preston Cowan took the mound on his birthday for Mount Pulaski. After a lead-off single, the Tornadoes scored a run after a couple first inning errors by Mount Pulaski.

The Hilltoppers would even the score in the second inning after a single by Chase Roberts and a double by Luke Martin. With two outs Jaeden Jackson hit an RBI single to left to give Mount Pulaski a 2-1 lead. A couple walks later, Mount Pulaski added another run. Keoni Charron made it 4-1 with a double to center.

Mount Pulaski plated five runs in the second inning. Aaron Volle drew a bases loaded walk to score a run. Tyler Cross drove in two runs on a single to right field. After a bases loaded walk to Charron, Mount Pulaski was on top 8-1. Tucker Fitzpatrick hit a sacrifice fly to eft to score Cross to make it a 9-1 ballgame.

Volle added an RBI single in the third inning to stretch the lead to 10-1. A sacrifice fly by Cross put the game out of reach with the score 11-1 but the two teams had to keep playing until the fifth inning due to the ten-runs/five innings rule.
