Martin struck out the first batter on three pitches and never
looked back as he faced 27 batters and struck out 15 of them.
Martin walked two batters and gave up two hits as he went the
distance in the 4-0 win.
Martin also scored the first run of the game in the bottom of
the fourth inning on a ground out by Jaeden Jackson. Tyler Cross
hit an RBI double in the inning to drive in the second run of
the game.
Mount Pulaski added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth
inning.
After a lead-off walk to Chase Roberts, Preston Cowan singled
and Martin drove in a run on a line drive to left. Aaron Volle
followed with a fielder’s choice to make the score 4-0.
With Martin recording a strikeout in every inning, and more
often than not multiple strikeouts in each inning, the
Hilltoppers four runs were more than enough for the victory.
Martin also led the team at the plate. He was 2-for-2 with an
RBI and a run scored. He walked once.
Tyler Cross and Preston Cowan accounted for the other two hits
in the game.
Carter Logue was the losing pitcher for the Bombers.
Mount Pulaski (19-9) will play at Warrensburg-Latham Thursday at
4:30 p.m.
