A pre-dusk walkabout in Lincoln shows the intricacy of local Halloween Decorations

[October 31, 2026]  For some, Halloween decorations are in full swing. Driving around Lincoln, one may see some houses with a few small decorations here and there. An inflatable or two, maybe some skeletons or other traditional Halloween decorations. Other homes, however, have pulled out all the stops to show their Halloween spirit.

At 511 N. Kickapoo Street, the front lawn and the house are heavily decorated for the holiday. Many gravestones litter the lawn. Behind them, purple tentacles are reaching out the windows. Next to the tentacles is a bloody shark jumping out of the grass that is attacking a pirate ship manned by a real skeleton crew. A giant skeleton is walking a giant skeleton dog. There are even a couple of small black flamingos with even smaller skeletons riding on their backs. A lot of care and attention to detail was put into these decorations, and it really necessitates a visit for one to see everything there is to see.

On 10th Street, there are even more heavily decorated homes to see. None, however, are as heavily decorated as the neighbors at 145 and 203. Dueling banjos might be an accurate description of these two homes, as one has almost every Halloween decoration one can imagine, while the other has gone all in on the skeleton theme. The residents of 145 have ghosts, witches, skeletons, pumpkins, gravestones, and more.

As one gets closer to 203, however, the skeleton theme starts to ramp up. The residents of 203 have skeletons riding bikes, swinging, dancing in multicolored skirts, sitting on the roof, and brewing a potion with smoke pouring out of the cauldron.

One home, at 900 4th street, opted for size rather than sheer amount. Instead of many intricate decorations, the most noticeable decorations here are the inflatable mummy and inflatable stack of pumpkins. Calling them large is a bit of an understatement considering they are just about as tall as the home itself. Trick or treaters need to see this one to believe it.

Not all of the decorations are so large or complex, however. There are many homes in town with decorations that are very nice. One home has a pirate ship in their front yard that is split by the walkway to their front door. Another has a cute white, purple, and orange “Happy Halloween” arch and a couple of other inflatables that light up in the dark. Even the county got into the spirit, setting up purple and orange lights around the fountain at Scully Park.

It might be nice to take a drive around town today to look at all the decorations before they start coming down next week.
