Page 26 2018 EDUCATION MAGAZINE LINCOLN DAILY NEWS MARCH 1, 2018 “I EXCEL” yard signs a conversation starter I f you live in Mount Pulaski you many have noticed some yard signs with a bold message “I excel” cropping up on some lawns. Mount Pulaski School Superintendent Todd Hamm said, “We didn’t tell the kids or parents. We calculated the scores and presented them with a sign to display at their house.” The program began at the start of the calendar year and so far there have been 49 signs that went to families of junior high students and 80 to high school students who earned straight A’s, high honors and honors. Supt. Hamm said the responses have been very positive. The signs created a conversation piece, why signs are in some yards and not others. “It is the kind of program you catch somebody doing something great and want to reward them for it, a very positive thing in the community.” The District plans to repeat the program.
