Hoping to finish K-5 math curriculum update at the end of this year to begin 2019-2020. • New Social Studies curriculum (K-8). • New Science curriculum (K-8). • Shurley Grammar adopted in addition to current program for 5th-8th grades to increase grammar and writing skills. • 81% (5th and 8th) of students MET on the Illinois Science Assessment. • Continuous improvement on required PARCC Standardized Testing from year to year. 35% of students approaching and 37% Meeting/ Exceeding in English-Language Arts. 34% approaching and 40% Meeting/Exceeding in Math. • The State of Illinois awarded WLB a Commendable Rating. This rating means WLB has no underperforming student groups. Student Services 2018-2019: • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) Lab created and opened for the 2018-2019 year. • This was a group effort from staff, faculty and parents to create this space for our students. It is a work in progress, but is growing throughout the year. Students participate in activities weekly that involve hands on learning and exploration to create and problem solve. The lab was fully created and funded by donations and volunteers. • Increased daily instructional time in Math, English-Language Arts, and Science/STEAM for grades 5th-8th. • Salad Bar lunch option for all students three days per week. • Social/Emotional support for all students by the implementation using a screening assessment. • P.A.W. Program implementation to provide character education and the use of Restorative Practices. • Art Club for grades 5th-8th. • BETA Club (similar to a National Honor Society) formed for the 2018-2019 year. • Creation and implementation of Student Accelerated Program (early stage). Extracurricular Activity Success: • The 7th and 8th Grade Lady Wolverines Basketball teams won the IESA 7-1A and 8-1A State Championships for the 2nd year in a row (third for 7th) completing the past several seasons undefeated. • The 8th Grade Wolverine Basketball Team finished fourth in state in the 2018 IESA 8-1A State Tournament. for West Lincoln Broadwell School Current status report
