Time goes by so slowly May through October, crawling, while we wait impatiently for the holidays to come, and then all of a sudden time speeds up to an unimaginable pace and the holidays are suddenly upon us. Surprise! Little time to plan, little time to shop, and even little time to plan the menu. This is the time of year to put everything that real life throws at us aside: anxieties about work and co-workers, leftover bad feelings about old failures, impossible schedules, and all the other things that drag you down and drain the joy out of your life. Look around! Homes decorated for the holidays. Gifts to choose for the ones you love. Bright sparkling lights and a transformed world that suggests that this can be a magical season, even for you. This is the time to find that lost joy. May I suggest a theme for this holiday season? Let’s choose “kindness,” characterized by patience, gratitude, and consideration. Starting to get in the mood? Each year we publish LDN’s “Home for the Holidays” magazine to put the finishing touches on your inner holiday preparations, with stories about the history of the holidays and what people did in past times.
