Pecan Bars

First layer:
1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese
3/4 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 ½ cups flour
½ teaspoon baking soda

Second layer:
¼ cup butter, melted
1 cup brown sugar
2/3 cup light corn syrup
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups pecan halves

To make first layer: In a large bowl, blend ingredients together with an electric mixer. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Press chilled dough firmly onto bottom of a 15 x 10 inch pan. Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
To make second layer: In a medium bowl, blend together ingredients. Spread pecan mixture onto warm crust. Bake an additional 20-25 minutes or until topping is firm around the edges and slightly soft in the center. Cool completely before cutting into bars.
