Gloria Simmons

Gloria A. Simmons, 65, of Lincoln died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at her home.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Larry Frier officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Mrs. Simmons was a secretary for Harris & Harris attorneys and for Emory Gaffney, CPA.

She was born Aug. 11, 1934, at Olney to Floyd and Evelyn (Eubanks) McGregor. She married Richard "Dick" C. Simmons on Dec. 24, 1954, at Olney.

Surviving are her husband, of Lincoln; her mother, Evelyn Gibbs of Lincoln; two sons, Timothy M. (and Sandi) Simmons of Dallas, Texas, and Sean P. Simmons of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Sabrina A. (and Brace) Piller of Dallas, Texas, and Kimberly B. (and Kent) Hart of Tullahoma, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Dr. Jack McGregor of Monticello.

She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather and one grandson.

She was a member of the Church of Christ of Lincoln.

Memorials may be made to OSF Hospice in Peoria.

Herbert Robbins

Herbert Robbins, 86, of Lincoln died at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2000, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Marge Iden officiating.

Burial will be in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Robbins was a former employee of CILCO in Lincoln.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Lincoln, to James Fredrick and Chloe (Dady) Robbins. He married Leona Schaper on Dec. 11, 1934, in Lincoln.

Surviving are his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Ron Robbins of Lincoln; one daughter, Marcia Mulcahy of Springfield; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ethel Wade of Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

 


Ruth Rice

Ruth L. Rice, 98, of Lincoln, died at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at the Christian Village in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating.

Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be for two hours prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday.

Mrs. Rice was a housewife.

She was born Jan. 9, 1902, to John and Amanda (Luster) Stilley in Marion. She married James A. Rice in Harco on May 8, 1920.

Surviving are a niece, Pansy Pirtle Parrish of Lincoln; a nephew, Cleo Holmes of Lincoln; a great-niece, Janis (and Jack) Crane of Lincoln; a great-nephew, Bill (and Susan) Pirtle of Lincoln; and other nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers and sisters. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Lincoln Christian Church and the Eastern Star–Daughters of the Nile.

Memorials may be made to the Christian Nursing Home.
