Great site
12-12-00
To
the editor:
We
are very pleased with the Lincoln Daily News site. We
are missionaries living in Papua New Guinea and have access to the
Internet. We visit this site almost daily to keep in touch
with what is going on back "home." Keep up the
good work. Thanks for your hard work in putting this site
together.

Weather
page
12-12-00
To
the editor:
Is
it a joke? I don't understand why the weather
web page consists only of a photo of the Lincoln weather station.
It looks as though you took no time in which to properly construct
a serious web page. I am sure that the community expects more than
what you have made available. I strongly urge you to take a closer
look at your weather site and make some greatly needed
improvements.

Thank
you for your input. We value our readers' responses. They are who
we serve.
When
we constructed the page we only intended to provide a link to a
weather website. From time to time we have chosen to provide a
local article that would be informative and stay there for a
while.
I'm
a weather purist. I just want to know what's going on where. With
the link that is provided on that page you can get
up-to-the-moment weather details for anywhere you can think of in
the world just by clicking on the weather forecast.
I'm
not sure what it is that you would like to see there.
We
have removed the local article about the weather station.
I
can see where the page could be dressed up with seasonal pictures,
weather tidbits provided, and changed seasonally. Perhaps we'll do
something more sometime in the future.
Thank
you for your observation.

Thanks
for help with Festival of Trees
12-9-00
Dear
Editor:
Main
Street Lincoln and the Abraham Memorial Healthcare Foundation
would like to thank all those who helped make the 2000 Festival of
Trees such a popular communitywide celebration. It is our pleasure
to offer this free event as a gift to the community to kick off
the holiday season.
The
Festival of Trees Council appreciates the support of Dick Logan
and the Logan County Board in again allowing the festival to be
housed at the Logan County Courthouse. Special thanks also goes to
Sheriff Tony Soloman for all his assistance at the courthouse.
Thanks
also to those who read at the Children's Story Time: Louella
Moreland, Karen Gerdts, Ruthetta Getchel, Connie DiLillo, Jenna
Michaelson, Janeen Ray, Beau Hanger, Carly McLean, Tristan Lemme
and Judy Awe.
And
thanks to the choirs who filled with courthouse with wonderful
music: Zion Lutheran Church (Lincoln) Chime Choir, St. John's
United Church of Christ Adult Chime Choir, Lincoln Community High
School madrigal singers and Faith Lutheran Church Choir.
The
Festival of Trees is also grateful to our premiere sponsor,
Lincoln Land Communications, and to those who sponsored, decorated
and purchased the trees, wreaths and swags. Thanks, too, to those
who helped out at the tree site and to the thousands of visitors
who visited the festival.

Obituaries
and police reports
12-8-00
To
the editor:
We
are Lincoln residents who are staying the winter in Hopewell, Ar.
It seems to us you do not update the police reports nor the obits
often enough. If there are none to report, can’t you give the
date, and state: "no obituaries today"? We rely on this
service and hope it will be improved.
Jean
Naylor
Jean,
Glad
to have you reading from your winter quarters.
We
have made and continue making many changes here at Lincoln
Daily News, as you may have noticed. We are constantly
evaluating and seeking to provide more valuable news to our
readers.
In
September we stopped gathering all the individual arrest reports.
We did not find there was enough interest in those reports for our
readers, since we chose not to include the names or exact
addresses of the suspects arrested.
At
that time we began keeping daily contact with our police
department and now choose to report significant events which may
be of interest to the community, as well as the police efforts at
proactive community activities.
Crime
reports are generally so small that they are usually provided as
front-page-only stories. They are also infrequent, which is
another great thing to be able to say about our community. When
important things do occur, you will see them in Lincoln Daily
News represented as truthfully and plainly as we can report
them.
It
is our opinion that court reports, though not timely or
sensational, are a sufficient means of reporting general criminal
activities. Court reports provide a legitimized, valid
representation of criminal activity in Logan County. They reflect
criminal activities in a way that police reports do not. It is no
longer an allegation, some misunderstanding between people, or
anything else. The person has been found guilty by a panel of
their peers or a judge.
Court
reports, unlike police reports, include the name and address of
the convicted person, and the date and location of the crime. The
court reports are posted weekly, most often on Saturdays, under
the Law & Courts section.
I
think we'll try your advice about the obits and provide a date and
notice saying "no obits" when there are none. It is good
to be able to say it has been a slow time for this activity.
Thanks
for your comments,
Jan

Former
ballplayers

To
whom it may concern:
Can
you tell me what has happened to Shawn Bunch and Tommy-John
Gallagher this year? I figured they would be a big part of
Lincoln's ball team. Has Coach Al decided to go young looking at
the future of Lincoln basketball? I don't live in Lincoln but I
try to keep up on B/G's basketball teams.
Thanks,
Rick
