Inspector Mark Miller has “the best job on the planet”

[FEB. 26, 2000]  For most of us, it sometimes seems like we live at our workplace. We may even feel like we eat, sleep and breathe our jobs. However, when 5 o’clock rolls around, we jump in our vehicles and head home. But for Fire Inspector Mark Miller and his colleagues, the day doesn’t end after an eight-hour shift. They still have 16 more hours to go.

[FEB. 29, 2000]  Have you seen too much trash on the ground lately? One staff writer did. Here's what she says: The temperature went up, the snow piles went down, the sun came out and what a mess in sight: trash.  Suddenly the careless discards of recent weeks lay exposed on the ground. Whether dropped on the spot or windblown from who knows where, they became the most noticeable items on streets no longer covered with snow.  Read the em space to find out exactly what she found littering one short block.

Television, Radio, Semi Trailer Taken

   Some time between February 11 and February 13, 2000, unknown person(s) forced entry to a 1999 Freightliner semi tractor while it was parked in a lot between the Wendy’s restaurant and the Burwell Travel Plaza on Woodlawn Road.  The unknown person(s) broke a window and took a television and citizen band radio.  The semi tractor was moved and the trailer the tractor was attached to was taken.  The semi-trailer was loaded with washing compounds.  The semi-trailer was a 1992 box trailer, silver in color with Heartland Express on the side.  Unit number 6151, the trailer had Iowa license plates on it.
