Vandalism:  
It affects us all

[MAY 9, 2000]  Don't think that because you haven't directly been the subject of vandalism, you've escaped the results of these acts.  We all pay through higher taxes and insurance rates. One of the most effective ways in which this activity can be prevented and those committing the offenses apprehended is through more involvement by the public. "More eyes are needed to watch for any suspicious activity," said Rich Ludolph, chief of police for the city of Lincoln.

"Mother, may I?"

[MAY 9, 2000]  "Mother, may I?" sounds like an appropriate children's game for this month. Maybe you remember taking baby steps, medium steps, giant steps, scissor steps, bunny hops and others to try to be the first to touch the "mother," with her back turned. A requirement, of course, was that you had to say, "Mother, may I?" before you made a move.

The Chamber of Commerce's marketing committee took their meeting to the
sidewalk in front of Grapes & Grounds Tuesday morning.  Many Chamber board
and committee meetings take place at various restaurants in all Logan County
communities.

commencement 
May 13th

[MAY 9, 2000]  The 133rd annual Lincoln College spring commencement will be Saturday, May 13, at 2 p.m. in Davidson-Sheffer Gymnasium. Dr. James M. McPherson, Pulitzer Prize author and Princeton University history professor, will be the commencement speaker and one of four honorary degree recipients.

LAW & COURTS
Drivers need to 
display placards for 
handicapped parking

[MAY 9, 2000]  The Lincoln Police Department implemented a disabled parking enforcement volunteer program May 1. The program has received a positive response from the community. We are asking for assistance from the public to enhance our program. The volunteers have been issuing tickets to vehicles that appear to be violating the handicapped parking spaces.
