LDN reader would like to see ISU sports coverage

11-14-00

Dear Lincoln Daily News Staff,

First I want to thank you all for creating a webpage that keeps so many Lincolnites up to date on the happenings in our town.  As a college student at Illinois State University, it is a wonderful/easy way to keep up with Lincoln news while at school.

I have just one complaint with your paper.  It is in the area of sports coverage.  I am not talking about Lincoln sports.  You have done an excellent job following sports in the Lincoln/Logan County area.  I am talking about college sports.  It was very nice to see stories on Lincoln's Andy King, Steph Reichle, and Brian Cook.  However, my question is:  Why does coverage of the University of Illinois football team make the front page when only 30 miles away in Normal, Lincolnite Andy King and his Redbirds won their football game in double-overtime?  I'm not saying that you shouldn't cover Illini football(or any other U of I sports), but shouldn't you have equal coverage of area teams?

I'm in the stands at every ISU game supporting these fine athletes and I know that a lot of Lincoln residents make the trip to Normal every weekend to do the same.  I would like to invite you to come see Steph Reichle, Andy King, and soon to be Redbird Gregg Alexander compete here at Illinois State.  I assure you that you'll walk away having seen a good game, been fully entertained, and have a good story that will interest many of your readers.

Sincerely,

Brock Boss

-proud ISU student, marching/pep band member
