Thomas
L. Davis, 81, of Atlanta died at 7:39 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23,
2000, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, at St. Mary’s
Church in Atlanta, with the Rev. Thomas Taylor officiating.
Burial
will be in Atlanta Cemetery.
Visitation
will be one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday.
Arrangements are being handled by Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral
Home in Lincoln.
Davis
owned and operated Oppitz Upholstery in Lincoln for many years. He
retired from Logan Correctional Center, where he taught upholstery
and furniture refinishing.
He
was born July 7, 1919, at Roe, Ark., to Luther T. and Eva Pauline
(Moore) Davis. He married Betty F. Foster on Oct. 25, 1942, in
Lincoln.
Surviving
are his wife, of Atlanta; one son, Tommy J. (Snookie) Davis of
Springfield; one granddaughter, Danielle Davis of Springfield; and
one sister, Wanda Farris of Lincoln.
He
was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
He
was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Atlanta and the Knights of
Columbus, 3rd Degree.
Memorials
may be made to the American Heart Association, American Cancer
Society or Atlanta Rescue Squad.
Raymond
Keys
Raymond
Keys, 93, of Lincoln, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, in
Lincoln.
Funeral
services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, at First
United Methodist Church of Lincoln, with the Rev. Larry Maffett
officiating.
Visitation
will be Sunday, Sept. 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holland & Barry
Funeral Home in Lincoln.
Keys
was retired from Lincoln Savings & Loan, where he had worked for
46 years. He was on the management team, serving as secretary and
treasurer.
He
was born March 10, 1907, at Beason to Garfield and Artie M. (Jones)
Keys. He married Bessie M. Brandt on Feb. 17, 1933, in Springfield.
She died July 28, 1987.
Surviving
are two daughters, Mrs. James (Marian) "Tootie" Poe of
Bloomington and Mrs. Eugene (Bonnie) Thompson of St. Simon’s
Island, Ga.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one
brother, Jimmy Keys of Yellville, Ark.
He
was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, John
and Bill Keys; and one granddaughter, Nicole Carlin.
He
was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lincoln and of
the Lincoln Kiwanis Club.
A
friend from the Kiwanis Club, Jack Bartelmay, who knew Raymond Keys
for 37 years, said that he was always first to volunteer and was
always "a complete gentleman."
Keys
was the Courier Man of the Month in October 1974.
He
was a graduate of Lincoln Community High School and Lincoln Business
College.

"Bugs" Gehlbach Ey
Mildred
“Bugs” Gelbach Ey, 90, Lincoln, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at
6:25 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.
Funeral
services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 1:30 p.m. at Holland
& Berry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev. Richard Reinwald and
the Rev. Canon William M. Turner officiating. Interment will be
in New Union Cemetery, Lincoln.
Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral
home.
Mrs.
Ey
was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Lincoln, a daughter of Fred Gehlbach and
Emma ( Berger) Gehlbach. She
married Vincent “Cap” Ey on Aug. 10, 1947, in Mount Pulaski.
She
is survived by her husband, in Lincoln; three nieces, Mrs. Rob ( Jeanie)
Bowman of Seattle,
Wash., Mrs. William ( Nancy) Rubenstein of St. Charles, Mo., and
Mrs. Jerry ( Ellen) Upton of Park Ridge; five nephews, Kurt Gehlbach
of Peoria, David Gehlbach of Palatine, Dr. Frederick Gehlbach of Waco,
Texas, Don Gehlbach of Columbus, Ohio, and James Ordelheide of St. Charles, Mo.;
one sister, Mrs. Elmer (Dorothy) Ordelheide of St. Charles, Mo.; and
three step- grandchildren, Dr. Steven Ey of Korona Dell Mar, Calif.;
Cynthia Ey of Geneseo, and Kathryn Espirity of Munster, Ind.
She
was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marie Gehlbach
and Helen Talmadge; and three brothers, Wilbur, Orville and Alton
Gehlbach.
She
attended Lindenwood College and was a graduate of the University of
Illinois. She taught
elementary school in Logan County, junior high school in Lincoln,
and high school in Mount Pulaski.
She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in
Lincoln. She was also a
member of Chapter B.M. of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Lincoln Study Club,
and was active in the Lincoln Elks Women’s Golf Association.
Memorials
