Effie Stone

Effie Pearl Stone, 67, of Havana died at 5:10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Havana Healthcare Center in Havana.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana, with the Rev. Mark Horn officiating.

Burial will be in Easton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Stone was a cook and homemaker.

She was born Aug. 24, 1933, at Easton (Mason County) to John T. and Vivian (Marr) Hall. She married Delbert D. Lane. Later she married Vernie A. Stone. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are four sons, Gary Lane of Havana, John Lane of Mascoutah, Delbert "Dewey" Lane of Bath and Vernon Lee Stone of Albert Lea, Minn; one daughter, Brenda E. Wilcoxen of Havana; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; and seven sisters, Louise Scott of Havana, Lucille Fields of Columbus, Ohio, Jane Schnoor of Mason City, Juanita Lacey of Havana, Rosemary Fletcher of Decatur, Charlene Nall of Manito and Linda La Cevita of Melbourne, Fla.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

She was a member of the Church of Christ at Havana.

Memorials may be made to the Christmas fund for residents at Havana Healthcare Center or to the Diabetes Association.


George McGinn

George "Bud" McGinn, 91, of Latham died at 9:33 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Quincy Veterans Hospital in Quincy.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with Bill Shanle officiating. Military rites will be accorded.

Burial will be in Lake Bank Cemetery, rural Latham.

Visitation will be one hour before the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

McGinn was a retired farmer.

He was born May 8, 1909, in Olney to John and Florence (Bollinger) McGinn.

He was the last of his immediate family.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

He was a member of VFW Post 99 and a lifetime member of the American Legion. He was of the Methodist faith.

Florence Brinkmeyer

Florence H. Brinkmeyer, 84, of Lincoln died at 12:55 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, 2001, at Holland & Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in Irish Grove Cemetery, Middletown.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brinkmeyer was custodian at the junior high school in Middletown. She retired in 1980.

She was born Feb. 9, 1917, in Menard County to Frank and Julia (Ferree) Agnew. She married Raymond Brinkmeyer on Dec. 24, 1940. He survives, in Lincoln.

Also surviving are one daughter, Beverly Sparks of Lincoln, and one granddaughter, Stacey Sparks of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.

She was a member of Middletown Presbyterian Church, Royal Neighbors of America and American Legion Auxiliary of Middletown.

Memorials may be made to Maple Ridge Care Centre.

Arno Petri

Arno J. Petri, 92, of Lincoln died at 9:52 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln, with Tom Gerdts officiating.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Petri worked in maintenance and at Lincoln Christian College.

He was born Nov. 28, 1908, at Manitowoc, Wis., to Nicholas J. and Dora (Owart) Petri.

He married Dell Banta on Dec. 18, 1938, at Green Bay, Wis. She died March 25, 1983. He married Barbara A. Funk in December 1986 in Lincoln. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Allen Petri of Topeka, Kan., and Harley Petri of Elkhart; one stepson, Bud Overby of Lincoln; one stepdaughter, Brenda McCluskey of Little Rock, Ark.; three grandchildren and five stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one brother and one sister.

He was a member of Lincoln Christian Church.

Memorials may be made to his church or Christian Village Nursing Home.


Gayla Webster

Gayla Louise Webster, 42, of Lincoln died at 11:05 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery, Lincoln.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Miss Webster was a mental health technician at Lincoln Developmental Center for almost 25 years.

She was born Aug. 21, 1958, in Lincoln to Noble James and I. Louise (Lockard) Webster.

Surviving are her parents, Noble James and Louise Webster Sr. of Lincoln; three brothers, Noble James Webster Jr., Zachary Kyle Webster and Cory James Webster, all of Lincoln; and one sister, Kathy Helen Hopwood of Lincoln.

She was a member of Lincoln Southern Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the family of Gayla Webster.


Carl W. Holland

Carl W. Holland, 81, of McLean, died 1:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital, Port Charlotte, Fla.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the McLean Christian Church, McLean. Mr. Tony Billingsley will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Clinton. The visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the McLean Christian Church and also one hour prior to funeral services Monday morning. Quiram Funeral Home, Atlanta, is in charge of arrangements.

Holland was born Jan. 14, 1919 at Kenney, the son of Henry and Edna (Moretz) Holland. He married Dorothy Ellen Buck April 16, 1941. She survives.

Also surviving are two sons Robert (Barbara) Holland and Jack Holland, both of McLean; three daughters, Marcia (Stewart) Shaffer of McLean, Susan (Thomas) Lawler of Lincoln and Jill (Michael) Allen of Green Valley; a sister, Jennie Strauman of Pekin; a brother, Lloyd Holland of Kenney; a sister-in-law, Virginia Abshire of Kenney; 14 grandchildren, Michelle, Michael, and Matthew Ramlow, Buck, Becky, Bonnie Holland, Brandi Passmore, Kari Nafziger, Katie and Hilary Shaffer, Jennifer, Ray, and Natalie Allen, and Tyler Holland; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Presley and Dean Holland; two infant brothers; and one infant sister. 

Holland went to school in Kenney. He was a lifelong farmer and retired in 1986. He was on the board of directors of DeWitt County Farm Bureau and DeWitt County Service Company. He was a member of Waynesville Masonic Lodge, Bloomington Consistory, Elks in Lincoln, National Rifle Association and Champaign County Rifle Association. He was instrumental in Pro-Gun Burma Shave Signs seen along the highways in Illinois.

Carl Holland loved his wife of almost 60 years and his family. He loved aviation and antique cars. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
