Mount Pulaski vs. Hartsburg-Emden

Two equally valued neighbors to Lincoln met on the courts Friday night.   The Mount Pulaski Hill Toppers faced off against the Hartsburg-Emden Stags on the Stags home court.  The Hill Toppers took an early lead, 20 - 5 in the first quarter against the Hartem Stags.  They widened their lead to more than double, 45 - 17 by half time. The ending third quarter score was 68 - 33.  Hartsburg came alive gaining 27 points, almost half their total game points, in the fourth quarter.  While Mount Pulaski only made a 12 point increase.  Still, the Mount Pulaski Hill Toppers walked away with the win, final score 80 – 60.

Team stats for Mount Pulaski: Brown 8-4-20, Davis 2-0-4, Dirks 1-0-3, Waymire 2-0-4, Blaum 5-0-10, Deibert 2-0-4, Erlenbush 2-0-4, Gieseke 1-0-2, Smith 4-0-8, Anderson 7-1-16, Wilson 1-0-2, and Schilling 1-0-3. Also on the roster were Olson, Couers, and Fuller. Team totals: 36 field goals and 5 free throws totaling 80 points.

Team stats for Hartsburg-Emden were Aper 3-6-13, Behrends 6-4-16, L. Jones 2-2-6, Ke. Leesman 2-4-8, Anderson 2-3-8, and Gleason 3-2-9. Also on the roster were A. Jones and Wrage.  Team totals: 18 field goals and 5 free throws totaling 60 points.

Illini Central vs. Williamsville

Illini met Williamsville at Mason City.  Taking an early lead, the Illini trounced the Williamsville 79 - 45.  Illini took the lead and kept it through out the game.  Quarter scores: 20 –9, 35 – 15, 61 – 24, 79 – 45.

High scorers for the Illini were Arnold (18), Hankins (15), and Jo. Deters (13).

Team stats for Illini: Miller 3-2-8, Hankins 7-1-15, Fletcher 3-1-9, Mulford 1-0-2, Grimsley 3-1-9, Giesler 1-0-2, Scott 1-0-2,  Arnold 4-9-18, Hamblin 0-1-1, and Jo. Deters 6-1-13.  Also on the roster were Herman, Cunningham, and Ju. Deters.  Team totals: 29 field goals and 16 free throws, totaling 79 points.

Scoring five three-point field goals for the Illini were Fletcher (2), Grimsley (2), and Arnold.

Central State Eight

Lincoln vs. Springfield Lanphier

Lincoln met Springfield Lanphier on their home court last night.  Lanphier took the lead and kept it for the night.  Quarter scores were 14 – 12, 30 – 25, 50 – 39, 65 – 50. 

High scorers for the Lincoln were Schnouer (13), Alexander (13), and Tungate (11).

Team stats for Williams 2-1-5, Alexander 4-3-13, Tungate 4-2-11, Knopp 1-0-3, Schrader 2-0-5, and Schonauer 6-0-13.  Also on the roster were Komnick, Bunch, Gallagher, Farmer, and Ashley.  Team totals: 19 field goals and 6 free throws, totaling 50 points.

Scoring six three-point field goals for the Lincoln were Alexander (2), Tungate, Knopp,  Schrader, and Schonauer.

[JAN. 5, 2001] 

Lincoln vs. Taylorville at Taylorville

Lincoln girls traveled to Taylorville yesterday. Despite staying behind for three quarters, Lincoln beat Taylorville 33-31.

Humbert led Lincoln in most points scored with 13. She made four field goals and five free throws. Bunch scored both of the team’s two 3-pointers and made one additional field goal for eight points. Kirk also scored eight points in the game with four field goals. Oller made four points in the game with one field goal and two free throws. Team totals were 12 field goals and seven free throws.

The Lincoln junior varsity girls team also won against Taylorville, 46-30.

Pleasant Plains vs. Illini Central
at Mason City

Illini Central girls played Pleasant Plains in a tournament at Mason City. Illini Central lost to Pleasant Plains 35-68.

Illini Central had five 3-point field goals. Three of those 3-pointers were scored by Damm. She had a total of six field goals and two free throws for 17 points. The other two 3-pointers were scored by Montgomery. She had a total of three field goals and one free throw for nine points. Other individual statistics for the game were Harvey 1-0-2, Francis 1-0-2, Blackstock 0-3-3 and Winkleman 1-0-2. Team totals were 12 field goals and six free throws.

Petersburg Porta vs. Mount Pulaski
at Mount Pulaski

Mount Pulaski girls hosted Petersburg Porta in tournament play. Scores ran close throughout the game. The first three quarters ended at 9-7, 17-18 and 29-31. Petersburg Porta finished off the game just ahead of Mount Pulaski to win 50-48.

Faith led the team in 3-pointers, scoring three of Mount Pualski’s four 3-point field goals. She also scored three free throws for 12 points total. Sanders scored another 12 points in the game with five field goals and two free throws. Beckers led the team in most points scored with 16. She scored six field goals and four free throws. Rucks scored the fourth 3-pointer for Mount Pulaski and made one additional field goal for five points. Other individual statistics for the game were as follows: Howe 0-1-1 and Jason 0-2-2. Team totals for the game were 16 field goals and 12 free throws.

[JAN. 3, 2001]  Below are reports on high school basketball games played by LCHS girls, Illini Central girls, Hartsburg-Emden boys and Mount Pulaski boys.

At Bloomington

Lincoln girls vs. Bloomington

Lincoln girls traveled to Bloomington last night. Lincoln fans can give a cheer for their 45-25 win.

Oller made the most points for the Lady Railers. She scored two of Lincoln’s five 3-pointers. She made two additional field goals and two free throws, for 12 points. Humbert and Cook each made 10 points for the team. Humbert made three field goals and four free throws. Cook made five field goals. Ingram scored another two of Lincoln’s five 3-pointers, for six points. Froschauser scored the remaining 3-pointer.

Other individual statistics for the game were Carey 1-0-2 and Peters 1-0-2. Team totals were 17 field goals and six free throws.

At Mason City

Illini Central girls vs. Beardstown

In a tournament at Mason City, Illini Central girls went up against Beardstown. Illini Central beat Beardstown 61-38.

Illini Central kept Beardstown from scoring any 3-pointers, while making four themselves. Damn scored three of those. She also scored three additional three field goals and six free throws, for 21 points, the most points scored by an individual in that game. Montgomery scored the fourth 3-pointer plus two other field goals and two free throws, for nine points. Winkelman scored 13 points for Illini Central with six field goals and one free throw.

Other individual statistics for the game were Harvey 4-0-8, Francis 0-3-3, Oney 1-1-3, Bitner 1-0-2 and Durdle 1-0-2. Team totals were 22 field goals and 13 free throws.

At Hartsburg-Emden

Hartsburg-Emden boys vs. Springfield Ursuline

Hartsburg-Emden boys hosted Springfield Ursuline yesterday. Hartsburg-Emden started out behind, with a 10-14 first quarter. They remained behind at the end of the first half, 21-32, and in the third quarter, 35-45. At the end of the fourth quarter the teams were tied 57-57. Hartsburg pulled off their win in overtime, 72-65.

Aper, with two of Hartsburg-Emden’s four 3-pointers, scored the most points for his team. He made seven more field goals in addition to his 3-pointers, for 20 points. Leesman scored 15 points for his team. He made five field goals and five free throws. Geason scored one of Hartsburg-Emden’s 3-pointers. He made a total of two field goals and seven free throws, for 12 points. Wrage gave the team 11 points from four field goals and three free throws. Anderson made the fourth of the team’s four 3-pointers. He made a total of two field goals plus five free throws, for 10 points.

Other individual statistics for the game were as follows: Behrends 1-0-2 and A. Jones 1-0-2. Team totals were 24 field goals and 20 free throws.

At Meridian

Mount Pulaski boys vs. Meridian

Mount Pulaski boys traveled to Meridian for a high-scoring game. Meridian kept just ahead of Mount Pulaski to win 87-71.

Mount Pulaski’s Brown scored 22 points in the game. Brown scored two of Mount Pulaski’s eight 3-point field goals. In total Brown made 10 field goals. Anderson made three of the 3-pointers. In total he scored six field goals and four free throws, for 19 points. Schlitt made two of the 3-pointers and Blaum made one. Blaum made one additional field goal for five points.

Other individual statistics were as follows: Schilling 2-0-4, Davis 2-1-5, Gieseke 2-0-4, Deibert 1-0-2 and Smith 2-0-4. Team totals were 29 field goals and five free throws.
