Lincoln
College returned to the basketball court after nearly a month off
and lost a 91-80 decision to Lakeland on the hosts’ court in
Mattoon Thursday night. The loss drops the
seventh-ranked Lynx to 11-3 on the season. Lincoln
will be at home Saturday against Lewis & Clark.
Lincoln
and Lakeland battled to a 43-43 tie at halftime, however, the hosts
made 14 of 25 shots from the floor for 56 percent the second
half. Lincoln was able to make 43 percent (15-35) of its
shots the second half after shooting nearly 55 percent (18-33) in
the first half. The hosts had a huge 48-24 advantage on
the board against Lincoln College.
Marlon
Brooks had an outstanding game with 30 points, including 6 of 13
from 3-point land. Jay Bates and Brian Moffitt
contributed double figures for coach B. J. McCullum, with 17 and 12
respectively. Lakeland had five players in double figures, led
by 21 points from Jovan Fisher.

Following
a long layoff, the Lincoln College Lady Lynx found the going tough
in the first half, as they lost an 85-68 contest to Lakeland at
Mattoon Thursday night. The loss drops Lincoln to
10-2 for the season while Lakeland improved to 11-4.
In
the first half, the two Lindsey girls scored 27 points for Lakeland —
six points more than the Lynx scored — and with
help from their teammates, Lakeland raced to a 52-21 halftime
advantage and never looked back.
Tameeka
Dawson led the Lincoln College scoring with 19 points while Ronni
Beebe added 16 and Sarah McLaughlin chipped in with 13. Kris
Lindsey led Lakeland with 28 points, 14 in each half.

courts heated up Monday night when the Lady Railers traveled to
Springfield to meet Springfield Lanphier. After setting a nice lead
in the first half, the Railers had to pick up the tempo as Lanphier
poured on the heat in the second half. The Railers found themselves
behind by three points 15 seconds before game end. It was Beckee
Oller’s two plays for four points in the last 15 seconds that gave
the Lady Railers their win by only one point, 43-42.

Heidi Heidbreder reports the Lincoln Gator Swim Club attended an
open invitational in Decatur this weekend. The
Seth Dunscomb New Year opener was Jan. 5-7 at Millikin University. Swimmers succeeded in
bringing home numerous awards, breaking team records and achieving
new personal highs.

Sam
Wood and Sean Weaver set new records for the Lincoln Gators. Wood
(age 8 and under boys) swam the 100-yard individual medley (25 yards
fly, 25 yards back, 25 yards breast and 25 yards freestyle) in a
time of 1:41.90. Weaver
(age 13 and 14 boys) set four new team records. He swam the 100 fly
in a time of 1:01.46, the 200 IM in 2:21.33, the 100 free in 57.56
and the 100 breast in a time of 1:15.25.
One
swimmer turned in a new personal best time, moving her up to Class A
in that event.

Ernst achieved her first A time in the 50 freestyle with 30.32.

Kelsey
Bruce recognized
 [JAN.

Former
Lincoln volleyball player Kelsey Bruce was recognized for her
achievements this season as a volleyball player for Illinois College
in Jacksonville. Bruce brought great value to the team and was
awarded a varsity letter for her accomplishments in the NCAA
Division III program. She hit .186 for the season and had 185 kills,
210 digs, 29 service aces, a .947 serve percentage and 77 blocks. As
a first-year player, Bruce was recognized for her solid performance
and consistency throughout the season.
