Lincoln
College vs. Illinois Central College
[JAN.
19, 2001]
Marlon
Brooks and Jay Bates carried Lincoln College to a hard fought 80-78
victory over Illinois Central College of East Peoria at the Lincoln
College gym Thursday night. Lincoln College, ranked eighth in the
nation in the latest poll, came from behind in the second half to
post the victory and run their record to 13-4 for the season.
|
Illinois
Central held a 37-33 lead at halftime and increased the margin to
seven points with just over 10 minutes left in the contest. At that
point, Brooks and Bates took over. Brooks hit a 3-point basket to
knot the score, and shortly thereafter Bates hit a pair of free
throws to give the Lynx the lead. The Lynx managed to stay on top
the final five minutes, but were not able to put much distance
between themselves and the visitors. Brooks kept the Lynx on top by
hitting free throws down the stretch.
Lincoln
College, struggling at the foul line most of the season, hit a very
respectable 78 percent from the line, 83 percent the second half.
The Lynx shot nearly 45 percent from the floor and had a 38-29
rebounding advantage.
Brooks
led all scorers with 33 points, making eight of 13 shots from the
floor and 14 of 17 at the foul line. Brooks was also 3 of 5 from
3-point land. Bates contributed 20 points on 8 of 12 shots from the
floor and 4 of 7 free throws. Also contributing double figures
was Eric Crockrell, with 12 points. He also pulled down 11 rebounds,
one less than Bates. Illinois Central had five players in
double figures, led by David Roos with 19.

Christian College vs. Missouri Baptist
[JAN.

around playing offensively." Kirk added.

College vs. Lewis & Clark
[JAN.
15, 2001]
|
LC men
Seventh-ranked
Lincoln College defeated Lewis & Clark 68-63 Saturday at the
Lincoln College gym. Lincoln is now 12-3 for the season.
Lincoln
used a strong defensive effort and some easy baskets to race to a
37-24 halftime lead over Lewis & Clark, and held on in the
second half despite shooting just 36 percent from the
floor. Coach B. J. McCullum said, "We were out of
sync in the second half. In the first half, we forced some
turnovers and got some easy layups; however, in the second half we
didn't play with much energy and didn't force turnovers.
Right now our post play is almost nonexistent. We are
trying to play one-on-one basketball instead of team ball."
Jay
Bates topped the Lynx with 21 points. The only other Lincoln player
to reach double figures was Eric Crockrell with 11. In addition to
scoring 21 points, Bates pulled down a team-high 15 rebounds and
handed out four assists. Crockrell added seven boards as the Lynx
had a slim 44-43 rebounding edge in the game.
Lincoln
finished the game shooting 43 percent (26 of 61) after going 14 of
28 the first half for 50 percent. The Lynx also hurt themselves
at the foul line by making only 14 of 25 shots for 56 percent.
Lincoln limited Lewis & Clark to 37 percent field goal shooting.
