Lincoln College President Ron Schilling
announced Dec. 4 that Lincoln College is the recipient of a $20,000
grant from the Verizon Foundation. The grant will buy computer
equipment and software that focuses on remedial reading, writing and
study skills. The new center will be located in Dooley Hall.
"The goal of the Verizon Writing
Success Center will be to help our students who have not reached
their academic potential and need personal attention in reading,
writing and study skills," Schilling said. "We are very grateful to
the Verizon Foundation for giving our students this opportunity."
President Schilling said the new Verizon Writing Success Center is scheduled to open on a trial basis
at the beginning of the 2004 spring semester and be fully
operational by fall 2004.

The Verizon Writing Success Center will
enhance the Academic Development Seminar that is offered to incoming
Lincoln College freshmen who have low ACT test scores.
According to Lincoln College Provost
Tom Zurkammer, this venture will help students with updated
software. "The Verizon Writing Success Center will be a nice
complement to the Academic Development Seminar and will modernize
our approach to helping students who need help with reading, writing
and study skills," he said.
Lincoln
College will evaluate the success of the Verizon Writing Success
Center by using past examinations, faculty evaluations and student
grades, Zurkammer said.
