[APRIL 16, 2004]  The public is invited to come celebrate spring at the Elkhart May Fest on May 1.

Garden plants will be available at the Needs and Goals plant sale at the Elkhart firehouse.

There will be a grand opening at Horsefeathers, featuring antiques, architectural salvage and more.

The Frenzone children's choir will sing and the Elkhart Grade School band will play at Veterans Park.

Visitors can purchase freshly grilled rib-eye steak sandwiches from the American Legion.

People are invited to visit the shops in Elkhart and register to win a unique May basket. No purchase is necessary in order to enter, and there are more than 10 baskets to win.

Participating shops and other places to register are the Needs and Goals Plant sale, Talk of the Town Tavern, Bluestem Bakery, Miss Jessie's Gallery, Danny's Route 66 Shell station, Elkhart Public Library, A-Z Antiques, Horsefeathers, Richardson's Simplicity Mowers and Repair Service, Illini Bank, Old Gillett Farm guest house, Elkhart post office and American Legion Post 616.
