John 'Doc' Dunker Sr.

John H. "Doc" Dunker Sr., 83, of Mason City died Tuesday (Aug. 3, 2004) at 10:35 a.m. at Mason City Area Nursing Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hurley Funeral Home in Mason City.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hurley Funeral Home, with Dustin Fulton officiating.

Burial will be in Mason City Cemetery.

Mr. Dunker was an operating engineer for R.A. Cullinan and Sons of Tremont for 38 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was born July 26, 1921, in Mason County to John H. and Sarah Petty Dunker. He married Irene Wharram on Dec. 6, 1941, in Shelbina, Mo. She died Feb. 4, 2004.

He is survived by one son, John H. Jr. (and Bonnie) Dunker of Mason City; one daughter, Donna (and Jack) Harmon of Hickory, N.C.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Vernon (and Arlene) Dunker; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one sister.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Mason City, American Legion Post 496 and Masonic Lodge 403 in Mason City. He was a former Mason City councilman.

Memorials may be made to his church or American Legion Post 496.
