'Pirates of Penzance'

Lincoln Community Theatre
has done it again. Under the direction of Tim Searby, a cast and crew of your
neighbors and friends have put together a hilarious rendition of a Gilbert and
Sullivan comedic masterpiece, "The Pirates of Penzance." Many of the cast
members are returning to the community stage for this production, while others,
including Brian Yakey, who portrays the Pirate King, are newcomers to LCT.

Other local residents who may be seen
in a different light on stage this weekend include Liam Coe; Todd
Brown; Randy Storm; Gail King; Gary and Christopher Ramlow; Brian
and John Welter; Angela, Phil and Moses Rogers; Bob Kurka; Emmary
Roemer; Donna Kessinger; Sara Bicknell; Gretel Mink; and several
others.
A live orchestra plays Gilbert's
tunes, while the cast members act out the humorous and touching
story of a young man accidentally indentured to be a pirate until
his 21st birthday. As the play opens, we see him celebrating that
his time is up and taking his leave of the pirates he has served
all these years. He promises to wed his nursemaid, a woman some 26
years his senior, then discovers that she has lied about her own
beauty and charm. Upon turning her away, he finds a young maiden,
beautiful and sweet, and vows to wed her instead.

In a surprise twist, the young man
finds that he will not actually have his 21st birthday for many
years, because he was born on Feb. 29.
Add a Keystone-type group of police
officers and a group of beautiful young maidens accompanied by
their father, and you have a story that is anything but boring!
Comedic costumes, slapstick, talented
musicians, tongue-twisting lyrics and a well-rounded cast make
this show a must-see for all ages.
The production continues at the
Johnston Center for Performing Arts on the Lincoln College campus
tonight (Saturday, Aug. 7) through Saturday, Aug. 14, at 8 p.m.
The special matinee on Sunday is at 2 p.m., and there is no
performance on Monday.
