Higher calling inspires [JUNE 30, 2004] F irst Christian Church in Champaign will host a senior adult ministry conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 12. The conference will feature Champaign minister and author Dr. Harold Davis, who will lead workshops on his TALKS mentoring program. In his keynote presentation he will address the important role adults play in the lives of children. As a man is, so is his strength. The conference, built on the theme of "Sharing Golden Nuggets in Golden Years," will offer a variety of workshops designed to show adults how they can stay physically, mentally and spiritually healthy by staying active in church ministries and by volunteering. Representatives from area ministries and organizations will also be available to answer questions and provide information about volunteer opportunities. "Sharing Golden Nuggets in Golden Years" is the brainchild of First Christian's senior adult's minister, Don Hatfield. "Older adults have golden nuggets of wisdom that are needed by the younger generations. Society and the church needs these people to be involved in mentoring, teaching and serving," explains Hatfield. "There are a variety of ministries that retirees can get involved in and really make a difference, really have a positive impact on the people around them, young and old alike." The conference is sponsored by First Christian Church in Champaign and Christian Homes in Lincoln. Conference registration includes continental breakfast, worship sessions and speaker, three workshops, and lunch. For more information visit the First Christian Church website at www.fcc-online.org/ministries-senior.html or call the church office at (217) 356-1649. [Tracy
