[AUG. 20, 2004]  PEKIN -- Buick Scramble is scheduled to host its fourth of five Illinois PGA Sectional Championships for the 2004 season on Wednesday, Aug. 25, at Pekin Country Club in Pekin.

Twenty-six five-person teams -- four amateurs and one PGA professional -- from throughout the Illinois PGA section will tee off with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Local participants signing in from the Lincoln Elks Country Club are Doug Dean and Mark English, both of Lincoln.

Teams will compete in a modified scramble format, with two teams (one gross, one net) advancing to the Buick Scramble National Championships, taking place Oct. 7-10 at Grande Lakes Resort in Orlando, Fla.

Each team participating in the Illinois PGA Sectional Championships advanced from its respective local championship earlier this season. A total of 214 teams from throughout the United States and Canada are scheduled to compete at the 2004 Buick Scramble National Championships.

Tiger Woods returns as the Buick Scramble honorary chairman for the 2004 season. Woods, 28, is scheduled to present the trophies to the national champions at the awards ceremony following the conclusion of the final round of the championships in Orlando, Fla.

All amateurs will receive a Nike duffle bag and a commemorative Buick Scramble pin flag for competing in the sectional.

Sanctioned by the PGA of America, the Buick Scramble is the world's largest amateur golf tournament, hosting more than 1,600 local championships nationwide annually. Local winners advance to one of 104 PGA sectionals, with those winning teams advancing to the nationals.

The "official car" of the PGA of America and the PGA Tour, Buick is title sponsor of four PGA Tour events and presenting sponsor of the PGA Club Professional Championship. Buick has an endorsement agreement with Tiger Woods, who recently signed a multiyear extension to continue as a Buick spokesman.
