LC men's soccer team wins opener     Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 30, 2004]  Chris Pettineo recorded eight saves to lead the Lincoln College men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Lake County at the LC field Saturday. It was the opening game of the season for the Lynx, who will be in action Tuesday at Kishwaukee.

The two teams battled through the first half without a goal; however, the Lynx were able to push in two goals in the second half. The first goal was scored by Adrian Contreras on an assist from Miguel Orozco, and the second goal was scored by Santos Omal Rodriguez with an assist from Contreras.

"We played the game without three starters, for various reasons, and I thought Paul Davis and Leandro Jones both played very well since they were playing positions they normally wouldn't be filling," said Lincoln College coach Ben Massena. "For the first game it was good effort, and Chris (Pettineo) played very well in goal, with one of his eight saves being a breakaway, which was pretty amazing."
