LINCOLN --
Norma "Louise" Meredith, 93, of Lincoln, died Monday, Dec. 27,
2004, at 5 a.m. at Maple Ridge Care Centre in Lincoln.
Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at
Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Lincoln, with the Rev.
Jame Hahs officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the
service.
Burial will be in New Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Meredith had been a hand painter at Stetson China,
sold Avon and Mary Kay cosmetics, and worked in the clothing
department at Lincoln Developmental Center. She retired in
1980.
She was born Dec. 25, 1911, at Chestnut to Ralph Elmer and
Alma Naugle Donnan. She married Gordon Harrison Meredith on
Jan. 6, 1932, in Chicago. He died Dec. 31, 1982.
She is survived by one son, Donald E. Meredith of Lincoln;
one granddaughter, Ann Marie Meredith of Lincoln; one
great-grandson, Bryant Meredith Watkins of Lincoln; two
great-granddaughters, Heather Lorene and Faith Marie McCarty
of Lincoln; one sister, Peggy (and Stan) Sympson of Wapella;
one nephew, Ronald (and Bonnie) Donnan of Taylorville; two
nieces, Patsy (and Lester) Cowgur of Chestnut and Darlene
McKinney of Chestnut; and one great-nephew, Tyler McKinney of
Chestnut.
She was also preceded in death by one brother, Elmer, and
one nephew, Richard Lynn Howe.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Lincoln and American Legion Auxiliary Post 263.

or St. Jude's Hospital.

Dorothy Emogene Snyder, 87, of Lincoln, died Saturday, Dec.
25, 2004, at 8:45 a.m. at her home.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader
Funeral Home in Lincoln. There will be a prayer service at
7:45 p.m.
Her funeral
will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church in
Lincoln, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee, the Rev. Larry Snyder
and the Rev. Patrick Kennedy officiating.
Burial will
be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Mrs. Snyder
was a homemaker for her family and retired from Lincoln
Garment Factory.
She was born
Oct. 3, 1917, in Lincoln to Elmer and Georgia Sparks Sheley.
She married Donald W. Snyder on April 11, 1937, in Lincoln. He
died in September of 1984.
She is
survived by five sons, Robert B. (and Mary) Snyder of
Bloomington, Richard L. (and Kay) Snyder of Lincoln, Thomas E.
(and Elaine) Snyder of Chillicothe, the Rev. Larry Snyder of
Minneapolis, Minn., and John W. Snyder of Emden; four
daughters, Carol Aeilts of Lincoln, Anita (and Gary) Tibbs of
Lincoln, Mary M. Powell of Atlanta and Wanda (and Douglas)
Peterson of Nebraska; 20 grandchildren; 36
great-grandchildren; six brothers, George (and Catherine)
Sheley of Lincoln, Wayne Sheley of Lincoln, Homer Sheley of
Lincoln, Howard (and Diane) Sheley of Lincoln, James (and
Joan) Sheley of New Holland and Robert (and Linda) Sheley of
Lincoln; and three sisters, Virginia Klockenga of Lincoln,
Jesse (and Jim) Rankin of New Holland and Mildred (and Marion)
Maaks of Lincoln.
She was also
preceded in death by two sons, two daughters, one brother, one
sister and two grandchildren.
She was of
the Christian faith.
Memorials
may be made to Carroll Catholic School or Dr. Wayne J. Schall
Hospice.

-- Blanche Marguerite Berberet, 80, of Mason City, died
Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, at 1:15 a.m. at Mason District
Hospital in Havana.
A graveside
service at Mason City Cemetery was on Tuesday morning,
with the Rev. Robert Paddack officiating.
There was no visitation.
Hurley
Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Mrs.
Berberet was a homemaker.
She was born
Feb. 25, 1924, in St. Charles, Mo., to Frank and Lena Rabbe
Norton. She married Richard Froebol Berberet on Sept. 3, 1948.
He survives.
Other
survivors are one son, Tom Berberet of Havana; one stepson,
Jim (and Barb) Berberet of Canton, Mich.; one stepdaughter,
Jean Krider of Westerfield, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; two brothers, William (and Linda) Norton
of Mason City and Raymond (and Marg) Dye of Mason City; and
one sister, Helen (and Kenneth) Pryor of Mason City.
She was a
member of the First Christian Church of Mason City.

Jane Whiteman, 89, of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at
5:50 p.m. at St. Clara's Manor.
Her funeral
was on Tuesday morning at the First United Methodist Church
in Lincoln, with the Rev. Jame Hahs officiating.
There was no visitation.
Burial is in McCliman's Cemetery, Hallsville.
Holland and
Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln handled arrangements.
Miss
Whiteman was chief deputy circuit clerk for 19 years. She
retired in 1976.
She was born
Jan. 20, 1915, in Lincoln to Paul S. and Mabel E. Bowyer
Whiteman.
She was the
last of her immediate family but is survived by many friends.
She was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln and
sang in the church choir for more than 50 years, continuing
through 1999.
She was a
graduate of Lincoln Community High School and Lincoln College.

Alfred Walter Maxheimer, 77, of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 24,
2004, at 10:40 a.m. Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
His funeral was
Tuesday morning at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in
Lincoln, with the Rev. David Russell
officiating. Visitation was on Monday at the funeral home.
Burial is in Mount Pulaski Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.
Mr.
Maxheimer operated heavy machinery in excavating, was a farmer
and sold Archer aircraft oil.
He was born
Oct. 2, 1927, in Logan County to Walter William and Martha
Bertha Michel Maxheimer. He married Maxine Horn on Jan. 25,
1948, in Mount Pulaski.
He is
survived by his wife, of Lincoln; one son, Dale (and Betty)
Maxheimer of Chestnut; three daughters, Linda Ryan of Tallula,
Shirley Brittin of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Teresa (and Craig)
Strampp of Lincoln; nine grandchildren; eight
great-grandchildren; three sisters, D. Lourine Howe of Mount
Pulaski, Emogene (and Patrick) O'Brien of Las Vegas, Nev., and
Evelyn (and Louis) Stengel of Petersburg; and two brothers,
Earl (and Delores) Maxheimer of Mount Pulaski and Franklin
(and Marianne) Maxheimer of Washington.
He was
preceded in death by one daughter, Phyllis Jean; twin
granddaughters; three brothers, Everett, Ralph and Clarence;
and one sister, Irene.
He was of
the Lutheran faith.
He was a
member of the Chestnut Fire and Rescue Department for 30
years.

Frances V. Trenkle, 97, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at 5:55
p.m. at St. Clara's Manor.
Her funeral
will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln,
with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating. Visitation will be
from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will
be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
Miss Trenkle
worked many years at the Reading Circle in Bloomington as a
librarian.
She was born
on July 7, 1907, in St. Louis, Mo., to Joseph F. and Blanche
Williamson Trenkle.
She was the
last member of her immediate family and was preceded in death
by three brothers, Adrian Trenkle, Wayne Trenkle and Joseph M.
Trenkle.
She was a
member of Holy Family Church, to which memorials may be made.

SPRINGFIELD -- Terry M. Becherer, 86, formerly of Lincoln,
died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at 11:45 p.m. at his home.
Cremation rites were accorded.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at
Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln, with the Venerable Shawn
W. Denney, Archdeacon of Springfield, officiating.
Inurnment of ashes will be in the Trinity Episcopal Church
Columbarium in Lincoln.
Holland and Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln is handling
arrangements.
Mr. Becherer owned Becherer's Jewelry in Hope, Ark., and
retired to Lincoln in 1991. He lived in Lincoln until 1997 and
later moved to Springfield in September 2002.
He was born
Nov. 20, 1918, in Tampa, Fla., to Francis Xavier and Florence
Blackman Becherer. He married Margaret “Mickey” Boyett on Feb.
15, 1948. She died Feb. 27, 2002.
Survivors
include two daughters, Terri Becherer of Los Angeles, Calif.,
and Sally Becherer of Springfield; one son, Thomas L. Becherer
(and wife Jenny) of Arlington, Va.; one grandson, Tom Ed
Becherer of Arlington, Va.; his wife of 1˝ years, Arlene (Pouillard);
four stepchildren, Marcus (and wife Mirtha) Poulliard of New
Orleans, La., Donetta Braner of Springfield, Michelle Hare
(and husband Ron) of Girard and Emily Poulliard of
Springfield; one step-great-grandson, Code Austin Womack of
Springfield; and two brothers, Charles Becherer (and wife
Carol) of Lincoln and Robert Becherer (and wife Donna) of Fort
Lauderdale, Fla.
He was a
member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lincoln.

Pfc. Clinton Charles "Clint" Dowell, 23, formerly of Delavan,
died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004, at 11 a.m. in Germany.
Visitation
will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Holland and
Barry Funeral Home in Lincoln.
There will
be an honor guard.
Following
cremation rites, a memorial service will be at 11 a.m.
Wednesday at the Delavan United Methodist Church, with the
Rev. Dean Blackburn officiating.
Pfc. Dowell
was stationed with the U.S. Army in Baumholder, Germany.
He was born
July 28, 1981, in Lincoln to Daniel W. and Ellen E. Wilson
Dowell.
He is
survived by his parents, of East Peoria; his maternal
grandparents, Chuck and Joyce Wilson of Lincoln; his paternal
grandparents, Robert and Lydia Dowell of Lincoln; and maternal
great-grandmother Louise Hardesty of Mattoon.
He was
preceded in death by maternal great-grandfather Estell
Hardesty and by his paternal great-grandparents.
He was a
member of the Delavan United Methodist Church.
He attended
Delavan High School, received his G.E.D. and later attended
Illinois Central College in East Peoria.s |
