Three ceremonies celebrate Abraham Lincoln's birthday today     Send a link to a friend

[FEB. 12, 2004]  Today, Thursday, Feb. 12, the city will honor its great namesake with several dedications. Mayor Beth Davis has a container sitting in her office with a collection of sesquicentennial memorabilia and items representing Lincoln as it is today. The items will go into a time capsule during a ceremony in Centennial Park, located at the Depot.

Immediately following the time capsule dedication the group will move to the site of the law office of Abraham Lincoln's law partner, Samuel Parks, on the west side of the downtown square. A new sign will be erected at the historic site.

Then an original oil portrait of Abraham Lincoln will have its official unveiling in the Lincoln College Museum.

  • 2 p.m. -- Time capsule dedicated at Centennial Park
  • 2:15 p.m. (approx.) -- Historic law office sign placed on west side of the square
  • 2:30 p.m. (approx.) -- Portrait unveiled at Lincoln College Museum
