"The Wiz," by
playwrights William F. Brown and Charlie Smalls, is an adaptation
of Frank Baum's classic novel “The Wizard of Oz.” Lincoln
College's production is an updated, urban version of the story
that now begins in 1985. Dorothy's adventures in the Land of Oz
have been set to music in a dazzling, lively mixture of rock,
gospel and soul. Some of the characters in this production
will strongly resemble such well-known '80s icons as Boy George,
Elton John, Cyndi Lauper and the Artist formerly known as Prince.
Show time is at 8
p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with a matinee performance at
2 p.m. Sunday.
Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $4 for
children and senior citizens. To reserve tickets, call the box
office at (217) 732-3155, ext. 280, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m.
