Jessie Stogdell

Jessie Ruth Stogdell, 86, of Chestnut died Monday (July 19, 2004) at 12:52 a.m. at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski.

Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Chestnut, with the Rev. Carol Andricks officiating.

Burial will be in Laenna Cemetery, Chestnut.

Mrs. Stogdell taught at elementary schools in Chestnut, Latham and Mount Pulaski before she retired.

She was born Nov. 20, 1917, at Chestnut to Ezra Clark and Ruth Eliza Williams Myrick. She married Fred J. Stogdell in Chestnut on Dec. 25, 1941. He died April 5, 1978.

She is survived by three daughters, Judi (and William "Pudge") Koehler of Lincoln, Ruth (and Donald) Plackner of Benson, Minn., and Janet (and John) Johnson of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and three grandchildren. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was a member of Chestnut United Methodist Church and the Methodist Woman's Club, Logan County Genealogical Society, Chestnut Happy Homemakers, Alpha Delta Kappa Mu, and the Ding-A-Lings Kitchen Band.

She did volunteer work at Vonderlieth Living Center and for Meals on Wheels. She had been an EMT-A and CPR instructor.

Memorials may be made to the Chestnut United Methodist Church or the Jessica Lynn Gee Special Needs Fund.
