trials: The University of Illinois Corn and Soybean Variety
Trial information is now available on the Web at
http://vt.cropsci.uiuc.edu.
These trials provide useful information for producers to use in the
seed selection process. Printed information will be available at a
later date at the Extension office and as inserts to the Illinois
AgriNews. Results are broken into regions of the state for each
crop, and soybeans have a separate Roundup Ready category.

Many producers are also bombarded with "strip trial" results this
time of year. These non-replicated trials are useful when combined
with several of these types of trials. By themselves, they have
little value. Pesticide
certification clinic
Logan County will have only one Private Pesticide Applicator
Training Clinic this year, due to the low number of producers
scheduled to retest. The training and testing session is scheduled
for Dec. 15 from 8:30 a.m. until the conclusion of testing
(estimated at 12:30). Preregistration is required and may be done by
calling the office at 732-8289 or registering on the Web at
http://web.extension.uiuc.edu/cie2/offices/
eventview.cfm?EventID=15544&OID=190.
This certification is required for all producers purchasing and
applying restricted-use pesticides. Certification is not needed for
producers having materials custom-applied.

With the necessity of rootworm insecticides on first-year corn,
it is almost a requirement to have a license. All rootworm
insecticides except for Lorsban 15G are restricted-use products. The
list of herbicides requiring a license is also growing, with all
atrazine products being restricted-use.
