MOUNT PULASKI -- Elsie I. Lakin, 98, of Mount Pulaski died Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at 3:45 a.m. at Vonderlieth Living Center.

Cremation rites will be accorded.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home in Mount Pulaski, with the Rev. Donald Kirchner officiating.

Burial will be in Mount Pulaski Cemetery at a later date.

Mrs. Lakin was a teacher in the Logan County area for many years.

She was born March 8, 1906, in Logan County to George and Ellen Hagenbach Stoll. She married Raymond A. Lakin in Chicago on Jan. 1, 1950. He died Feb. 5. 1998.

She is survived by one stepson, Kenneth (and Darline) Lakin of Sun City, Ariz.; two stepdaughters, Linda (and Bill) Martinie of Lincoln and Shirley (and Ralph) Helton of Lincoln; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut.

She graduated from Mount Pulaski High School and Illinois State Normal University in Bloomington.

Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Chestnut or Lifeline of Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

LINCOLN -- Mary Catherine McDowell, 83, formerly of Lincoln, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at 1:15 p.m. at her home in Chatham, N.J.

Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Peasley Funeral Home in Lincoln.

A funeral Mass will be at 10:45 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lincoln, with Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. 

She was born March 16, 1921, in Lincoln to Louis and Marie Hegele Ryan. She married Joseph R. McDowell in California in January 1943. He died May 9, 2001.

Mrs. McDowell is survived by one son, Jerrold McDowell of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.; three daughters, Patricia Minor of Lexington, S.C., Kay Compton of Byram, N.J., and Marta McDowell Bent of Chatham, N.J.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn (and Greg) Fitzpatrick of Lincoln and La Donna Mahler of Lincoln; and one uncle, Ralph Hegele of Lincoln.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Young, and one brother, Robert Ryan.

She attended St. Mary's School, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939 and from Lincoln College in 1941. Then she taught school in Morton. From 1942 until 1960 she lived in San Francisco, Calif. She had lived in Chatham, N.J., since 1960.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lincoln and later at St. Patrick's Church in Chatham, N.J.

Darlene Bloodworth

LINCOLN -- Darlene E. Bloodworth, 51, of Lincoln died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at 7 a.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cemetery.

No visitation is scheduled.

She was born March 2, 1953, in Louisville, Ky., to Roy and Ethel Tungate Ramsey. She married Gary Bloodworth on Sept. 4, 1970 in Petersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Gary Bloodworth Sr.; one daughter, Tammy Bloodworth of Springfield; one son, Gary Bloodworth Jr. of Lincoln; three grandchildren; five brothers, Charles Ramsey of Lincoln, Gary Ramsey of Petersburg, and Willie Ramsey, James Ramsey and Allen Ramsey, all of Kentucky; five sisters, Patricia Sparks of Middletown, Joyce Ramsey of Springfield, and Beverley Ramsey, Jeanette Ramsey and Peggy Rogers, all of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Edgar Ramsey.

Memorials may be made to the family.

LINCOLN -- Margaret M. Kurtz, 78, of Lincoln died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at 9:05 p.m. at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A prayer service and visitation were on Friday at Peasley Funeral Home.

Her funeral was Saturday morning at Holy Family Church, with the Rev. R. Anthony Lee officiating.

Burial is in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Krutz had been employed as a licensed practical nurse at St. Clara's Hospital, Deaconess Nursing Home and Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital. She retired in February of 1988.

She was born Feb. 15, 1926, at Streator, to George and Mary Urdzik Yusko. She married John H. Kurtz on Sept. 2, 1952, in Lincoln. He died Sept. 22, 1982.

She is survived by one son, Larry R. Kurtz of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Matthew L. Kurtz and Christopher M. Kurtz, both of Lincoln; two sisters, Louise (and Leon) Hinkelman of Ottawa and Mary Lou Yusko of Streator; two brothers, James (and Beverly) Yusko of Streator and Larry (and Irngard) Yusko of Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers.

She was a member of Holy Family Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the American  Diabetes Association.
