Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library opening ceremony     Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 11, 2004]  SPRINGFIELD -- The opening ceremony for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library at Sixth and Jefferson streets in downtown Springfield will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Gov. Rod Blagojevich and other dignitaries will participate in the event -- a deliberately modest program, looking forward to next spring's more elaborate dedication of the adjacent presidential museum.

The public is encouraged to attend the opening, for which no reservations are required. In addition, following the ceremony there will be an open house with public tours of the new facility until 8 p.m. that day.

A private dedication ceremony for the Steve Neal Reading Room, named in honor of the late Chicago Sun-Times columnist and author, will be at 1 p.m.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library will begin regular hours of operation on Friday. It will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library will be closed on Sunday and major state holidays.
