Neighbors provide harvest help  Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 30, 2004]  BEASON -- In an outpouring of help, more than 35 farm neighbors turned out in pleasantly warm temperatures Oct. 25 to harvest soybeans for the David and Harold Drake families of Beason.  [click here for more pictures]

Thirteen combine operators, creating a cloud of dust against a clear blue October sky, cut over 350 acres in four separate fields that afternoon. Neighbors provided 13 trucks, tractors, an auger wagon, gravity wagons and semis that were used to haul the crops.

A steady stream of neighborhood farmers eager to help delivered the thousands of bushels of soybeans to nearby ADM Grain, Tabor Elevator, throughout the afternoon.

Sandwiches and drinks provided by State Bank of Lincoln and cookies prepared by neighbors were delivered to the fields for each volunteer.

The harvest help was certainly a visible demonstration of how neighborhood farm families and local businesses work together to help one another in times of need.
