The last couple of months and the next
several will be packed with work and work projects. You would think
that when a college like ours is as blessed as it has been the last
few years that everyone could just sit around and nod and smile. Not
so. It takes as much or more to keep things at the new higher level
than it did to get there in the first place; and then if you want to
grow, it will take even more.
Heck, I haven't even been to St. Louis
in the last two months, and THIS is a CHAMPIONSHIP season! In
addition, the weather has just been so nice that I want to spend as
much time outside as anything else.
I do have some other suggestions for
those of you who are trying to get out before winter springs upon
us. Check out Quincy, Ill., and Hannibal, Mo., two towns
approximately a two-hour drive west of Lincoln. Go by yourself or
take your family, as there is plenty to do for everyone. I would
also suggest the Rockford, Ill.-Beloit, Wis.-Janesville, Wis. area.
There is shopping, fishing, golfing, boating, rivers and lakes,
camping, and plenty of stuff for individuals, kids and families.

One last suggestion for this week would
be Turkey Run (Indiana) State Park. I realize that it is on foreign
soil, but it is a fun place to hike, bike, meditate by yourself,
take your family and camp, canoe or tube, shop, and just have an
overall good time. It is about 2½ hours east of Lincoln, and this is
an excellent time of the year to visit the park.
Don't forget to join my knowledgeable
sidekick, Greg Taylor, and me as "FANdamonium" is back on television
at CITV-5. We WILL cover a host of topics on the sports landscape,
and maybe Greg will whisk me away and force me to cover some
sporting events. I'm counting on him to do just that.
Other than that I do tip my cap to the
following teams that I heard were successful over the last couple of
days: Lincoln Railers with a football victory over Springfield;
Illinois with a win over Western Michigan; Illinois State's comeback
over Eastern Illinois; and the St. Louis Cardinals, champions of the
NL's Central Division. Congratulations to all of these teams, and
we'll have a lot more for you in the weeks ahead. I hope.
That's all
for me… Have a great week, everybody!
