County engineer commended     Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 17, 2005]  The Logan County Board took a few minutes on Tuesday to commend county engineer Robert "Tom" Hickman for his work in the six years that he has served the county. Before reading the commendation that cited his accomplishments, county clerk Sally Litterly first said to Hickman that she personally felt that he is an exemplary person and he was great to work with. "I'm really going to miss you," she said.

The abbreviated comments in the commendation that was read said: During his six years as Logan County's engineer, Hickman has overseen the professional staff in the highway department, worked with the zoning officer and worked with various groups. He directed the county infrastructure and kept the department running within budget, in addition to aiding the county by making cuts and holding down costs during the recent years of fiscal restraints. He is credited with assisting with the enterprise zone, developing and initiating the base of the county's geographic information system, and has made excellent contributions to land use analysis. He demonstrated passionate participation in leading the county in areas of his expertise.

In summary, he was top-notch in his professional duties.

Hickman appreciated the board's comments and expressed appreciation in working with them over the years. He credited the excellent staff he had to work with in the highway department and said, "They made me look good."

Hickman was also honored with a reception at the Logan County Highway Department earlier on Tuesday. Today (Wednesday) is his last workday. He moves on to a position in Macomb as county engineer for McDonough and Henderson counties.

Bret Aukamp has been officially appointed as acting county engineer until a replacement for Hickman is found. Aukamp has been working in the office for several years, and Hickman said that he is knowledgeable on all the projects that are on the board, including the Fifth Street Road project.
