Clark, the daughter of
Frank and Tina Clark of Benton, was recently diagnosed with acute
lymphoblastic leukemia and is currently in a Springfield hospital
undergoing treatment. Her mother, Tina Clark, said the diagnosis
came at the end of a weeks-long period of pain. Mrs. Clark said her
daughter had been sick over the summer with migraines and sinus
infections and was in and out of the emergency room. Lincoln
College head volleyball coach Mark Tippett, who is in charge of the
donations, says he hopes the Lincoln community will turn out for his
team and help the Clark family with medical costs. "We are thankful
to anyone who helps, and we are trying to keep a positive attitude
on Mackenzie's condition," he said.
Clark played for head volleyball coach Tony Phelps at Benton High
School, where she was a member of the Benton team that played in the
Elite Eight pairings at the IHSA state tournament in 2001-02 and
2003-04. She also has experience playing club volleyball with the
Topsin and SIRRY teams.
