Illinois Athletic Director Guenther Inducted into Hall of Fame Joins two other former Fighting Illini athletes in Class of 2005          Send a link to a friend

[SEPT. 20, 2005]  CHAMPAIGN, ILL -- University of Illinois Director of Athletics Ron Guenther will be inducted into the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame Sept. 22 at the Hawthorne Racecourse in Stickney. Guenther, in his 14th year as athletics director at Illinois, is a native of Elmhurst and was an all-state football player at York High School before lettering at Illinois in 1965 and 1966. He earned Illini MVP honors as a senior in 1966. Former Illini Larry McCarren and Chuck Ulrich will join Guenther in the Class of 2005. McCarren lettered at Illinois from 1970-72 before a 13-year career with the Green Bay Packers. He has been the radio voice of the Packers for several years. Ulrich lettered in football at Illinois from 1949-51 and played for the Chicago Cardinals from 1954-58.
