[APRIL 5, 2006]  The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens, regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and trips. For more information, call 732-6132 or 732-5844.

Light lunch bingo

Maple Ridge Care Centre will sponsor a "light lunch" at The Oasis on Thursday, beginning at noon. Lunch will consist of sandwiches and treats. Bingo will begin at 1 p.m. Bring a friend, come join the fun, and win a prize!

Need assistance with insurance forms?

The Oasis and the Senior Health Insurance Program sponsor assistance to seniors with their insurance forms. The volunteers are trained by the Department of Insurance to guide you through problems involving Medicare, Medicare supplement, long-term care insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing denied claims. This free service is offered every Thursday afternoon. Call 732-6132 for an appointment.

Blood pressure checks

The Oasis offers free blood pressure checks every Friday between 10 and 11:30 a.m. No appointment necessary.

Tax preparation

The tax deadline is coming closer! The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will offer seniors free assistance with their taxes. The Oasis will offer electronic filing for the 2006 tax season. Call 732-6132 to schedule an appointment.

Tuesday lunch

The 11:30 a.m. lunch for April 11 will feature Texas casserole, tossed salad, corn chips, dessert and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if you stay and play cards. Deadline is noon Monday.

Winners for the week announced

Alice Thornton and Helen Cart were the weekday pinochle winners. The weekend pinochle winners were Esther Will and Ruth Ackerman. Congratulations, winners!
