Ruth Haak, membership chairman, reported that the 2007 dues are
being accepted now. She asked that all be paid in early September.
Dues statements will be mailed out shortly. Louise Cobb, second
vice president and child welfare chairman, reported that the total
evaluation of her chairmanship is $22. Campbell labels have been
sent to schools for educational equipment.
Doris Langenbahn, third vice president, reported that her
chairmanship evaluation was $625, with projects of large plastic
containers and lids to a campground for carryouts; volunteering at
the local food pantry and donations to the pantry; cards sent; and
donation of food to funeral dinners and the home of those bereaved.
As scholarship chairman, Ruth Haak reported donations sent to the
Auxiliary Department Scholarship Fund in memory of two AMVETS
members and
the mother of one. The money is used for scholarships for seniors
entering college. Over 60 scholarships are presented each year by
the AMVETS and auxiliary, totaling about $113,000.
Dorothy Sanders, hospital chairman, reported on the donation of
paperback books to nursing homes; glasses, cases and parts to a
veterans medical center; and visits to veterans and nursing home
residents. The total evaluation was $10,128.

As Americanism chairman, she also reported on program evaluations
of $1,359, including the continuing work connected with the Veterans
Honor Roll in All Veterans Park. All who wish to have a brick laid
should get their orders in. More bricks will be laid in the future
whenever possible and if there are enough brick orders. Forms are
available from the container in the park or by calling 732-8829.
Callers who get the answering machine should leave their name and
address and how many forms they need. Please be distinct with the
name and address. Forms will be mailed immediately.
Flying of American flags was discussed. The group expressed
wonderment at the lack of flags being flown in Lincoln and hoped
that all will again start flying their flags to show patriotism,
which seems to always wane when disasters get old. People seem to
forget there are still many service members in harm's way right now,
trying to protect our freedoms and those of other countries and to
preserve democracy and bring it to other countries.
Two certificates were displayed that had been received from the
department convention for the hospital program and Americanism.
Members are reminded of the next meeting, which will be Sept. 18
at 4 p.m. at 1417 N. Logan St.
