Bomke seeking owners of unclaimed property          Send a link to a friend

[AUG. 9, 2006]  SPRINGFIELD -- State Sen. Larry Bomke, R-Springfield, is working with Illinois State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka in a joint effort to locate central Illinois residents who may be the owners of abandoned or unclaimed property.

Bomke said that a number of area residents have abandoned property in their name that can be claimed and that most claims are assets exceeding $100.

"There are millions of dollars in unclaimed money that people have either lost or forgotten about, and in some instances, weren't even aware that they had," explained Bomke. "The treasurer's office has implemented a Cash Dash program, and its entire objective is to reunite Illinois residents with their unclaimed property."

Bomke encouraged residents to visit the treasurer's Cash Dash site at http://www.cashdash.net/, enter their name and see if they have abandoned property in their name. Unclaimed property can include bank accounts, stock and dividends, wages, bonuses, commissions, refunds, safe deposit boxes, insurance payments, gift certificates, credit memos, account receivable credits and payables; real estate, however, is not included.
