Lincoln College students eat up finals week with late-night breakfast          Send a link to a friend

[DEC. 7, 2006]  Preparing for final tests at the end of each semester can add stress to any student's life. Lincoln College students are finding one stress-reducing option that will alleviate some of the pressure that course work creates.

The Lincoln College Student Services office is offering a finals kickoff breakfast for students on Monday from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the cafeteria at the Meyer-Evans Student Center. The late-night, full-course buffet will include sausage patties, biscuits and gravy, iced cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, and cold cereal.

Jim Bixby, dean of student services, says the meal will help students with their studies. "A majority of our students are up studying at that time, so we thought it would be a helpful way to give them a break, get something to eat and relax," he said.

Bixby said he would like to acknowledge the help of Bridgett Thomas, Judy Horn, Steve Snodgrass, Judy Atteberry, John Stoltzenburg, Michelle Bauer and the resident hall counselors for the production and cleanup of this event.

The Lincoln College library also helps students with longer hours. June Burke, head librarian, says the college extends library hours the two weeks before and the week of finals. The staff helps students Sunday through Thursday of each week until 11 p.m. and usually beyond that time, as well as being open four hours on Saturdays.

"On Friday, Dec. 1, after the snow-ice storm, when classes were canceled, the library was open and helped students with research papers and other final projects," said Burke. "The college was lucky because it had power." Throughout the day, many students used the library computers and various print materials for their assignments.
