In keeping with its usual practice
at such seminars all over the world, the Red Cross endeavored to
draw connections between universal humanitarian principles and
familiar precepts of local culture, customs and traditions -- in
this case, those of the Acholi.
The event concluded with a lively
discussion of the mandate of the International Committee of the Red
Cross in armed conflict, the principles of neutrality and
independence, and the inhibiting effect violence can have on
humanitarian relief work.
