MIDDLETOWN -- The annual K-C-B ice cream social
is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Middletown Park
pavilion. "Poetry and Music in the Park" features Jessie Johnson

Express of Lincoln.

Jessie Young is a popular poet in central Illinois. She has just
published her second book of poetry and is published regularly in
the Banner Times newspaper of Mason City.
Dan Guillory has spoken
about Lincoln at the Newberry Library in Chicago, the Illinois State
Historical Society and other prestigious cultural sites. In
Middletown, he will read Abe Lincoln's poem "The Bear Hunt" and tell
of its origin in Abe's early life.
Besides authorship of over 500 articles, poems and book reviews,
Guillory has published five books, among which is "Living With
Lincoln: Life and Art in the Heartland." His other books are
"Alligator Inventions," with poems about his Cajun roots; "When the
Waters Recede," about flooding in four Illinois communities in 1993,
illustrated by his spouse, Leslie Guillory; "Images of America:
Decatur," and "Wartime Decatur: 1832-1945," published this year.
He received his Ph.D. in American literature from Tulane
University in 1972 and taught shortly thereafter at Millikin
University in Decatur. In 2004 he was appointed professor emeritus
of English at Millikin.

The Postville Express, formerly the Possum Holler Pickers, is a
popular country and gospel music group.
The ice cream social is a fundraiser for the Knapp-Chesnut-Becker
Historical Society, which maintains the Knapp Library-Museum, 101 S.
Clinton. As the society is a not-for-profit corporation, donations
are tax-deductible.
Homemade pies and cakes, ice cream, tea, and coffee will be
offered for $3 per person. Proceeds will be used for books, videos
and other educational items.
For an exceptional Sunday afternoon experience, don't miss the
K-C-B ice cream social at the Middletown Park.
