The Oasis, Logan County's senior citizen
center, at 501 Pulaski St. in Lincoln, is open weekdays, except
holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center also is open on Friday
and Sunday nights for table games. Dominic Dalpoas is the executive
director. Activities are open to all Logan County senior citizens,
regardless of membership. Friends of The Oasis members receive a
bimonthly newsletter by mail and reduced rates for classes and

Illinois Cares Rx (Circuit Breaker, SeniorCare)
Applications are here! Remember, you must continue to file an
application for the Illinois Cares Rx each year. The time to file is
as soon as you get all the financial information to complete your
application. This year the application has grown due to the new
Medicare D process. If you need additional help or assistance, call
The Oasis for an appointment at 732-6132. All assistance is provided
free to anyone requesting it.
Need help with insurance forms?
The Oasis and the Senior Health Insurance Program sponsor
assistance to seniors with their insurance forms. The volunteers are
trained by the Department for Insurance to guide you through
problems in involving Medicare, Medicare supplements, long-term care
insurance, retiree health plans, claims processing and appealing
denied claims. The volunteer is at the senior center every Thursday
afternoon. If you need help, please call for an appointment at
732-6132.
Extension service to sponsor bingo
The Logan County Extension Unit will sponsor the bingo games that
start at 1 p.m. Thursday at the senior center. Come join the fun and
win food prizes.
Alzheimer support group to meet
The Alzheimer support group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday in the
library at The Oasis. No reservation is necessary. The group
provides support and information for caregivers and extended family.
A coordinator from Maple Ridge Care Centre facilitates the group.
Oasis board meeting
The monthly board meeting of Senior Citizens of Logan County Inc.
will begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at the senior center. The meeting is
open to the public. To schedule any agenda items, the board must
receive notification in writing on or before the fifth day of the
month prior to a meeting date.

Blood pressure checks
The senior center offers free blood pressure checks every Friday
between 10 and 11:30 a.m. No appointment necessary.
Book club
Come and join our very own Oasis Book Club. The scheduled time is
Monday at 1 p.m. Coffee and tea will be provided. Bring a friend and
enjoy reading.
March birthday party
Birthday time! Monday at 1:30 p.m. it's time to celebrate your
March birthday with us. There will be games, prizes, entertainment,
and cake and ice cream. Bring a friend and come join the fun.
Tuesday lunch
The 11:30 a.m. lunch for March 21 will feature goulash, salad,
bread and butter, dessert, and a drink for only $3.75, or $3.25 if
you stay and play cards. Reservation deadline is noon Monday.
Winners for the week announced
Larry VanBibber and Alice Petro were weekday pinochle winners.
The weekend pinochle winners were Larry VanBibber and Harold
Goodman. The five-in-one winners were Joann Eckert and Bernie DePuy.
