Lincoln AMVETS news       Send a link to a friend

[OCT. 17, 2006]  AMVETS research on Congressional Medal of Honor winners from this area has turned up the following five: Henry Fox of Lincoln, John W. McDonald of Waynesville, John Hall of Logan County, Richard M. Longfellow of Logan County and Ernest C. Williams of Broadwell. Researchers found that a Maj. John A. Logan served with the 33rd Infantry U.S. Volunteers of Illinois, but it has not been determined if he was of the Logan County Logans and the year he entered service. If anyone can help with this information, please advise the Lincoln AMVETS. If there are any more positively known Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from this area, AMVETS would appreciate receiving their names, rank, hometown and year entered service. Plans are in the works for a special tribute to the area Congressional Medal of Honor winners.

Veterans, have you ordered your personalized, imprinted granite brick to be laid in the Veterans Honor Roll that surrounds the memorial monument in All Veterans Park? Families and friends who have been intending to order a brick for your loved ones, have you done it yet? If not, please do so immediately, as there will be one more laying of bricks before winter.

To order, complete an application form for each brick, enclose a check in the amount of $35 for each brick ordered, and return to the address on the form: AMVETS Logan County Veterans Honor Roll, 1417 N. Logan St., Lincoln, IL 62656-1222. Make checks payable to "AMVETS Logan County Veterans Honor Roll." The forms can be secured from the container at All Veterans Park or by calling 217-732-8829. Callers who get the answering machine should leave their name, address and how many forms they need. Please send in orders immediately so that the bricks can be laid with those for all the other veterans in a place of honor and tribute for their sacrifice in protecting us and our country. If you have not visited the park and viewed the honor roll, please do so.
